LF Cornish - Crossing White/Dark to work towards White

The two chicks are starting to show more spots. Not just dark/black spots but red spots as well. You can really see the difference between them and my older dark chick.

I’m noticing the cockerels have a lot more bright red on their wings than the pullets. The red in the pullets is much more muted.

Just for information to anyone following this thread. I had to put down HAL (Hop-a-long) the sire of these chicks. His injuries just caught up with him. The story about his injuries in in this post.
But today I made a step in the right direction, we just got rid of the last of our surplus bantam mix roosters and I was able to use their containment unit to set up my first breeding pen! This is Hop-a-long, one of 3 Cornish roos that was maimed by a bully Blue Cochin I had (I sold him), along with my two original Dark Cornish girls from my trio and the lone White I have left from eggs I got from Fairview01. I had a White cockerel hatch too but he died of suicidal stupidity. Hop-a-long has recovered nicely. He only has a lip if he tries to move fast.

I put HAL's father (Fat Daddy) in the pen with their mother in order to hatch more chicks.

Update: I'm turning this into a story thread so people can follow my progress going forward.

I got one LF White Cornish Pullet out of a batch of shipped eggs I got last year. Two chicks hatched but the cockerel that hatched with her died of suicidal stupidity.

These are the best images I have of her currently (taken about 4 months ago).

Ideally, I'd like to get a white male to work with, but I'm trying to simplify things this year. I have a baby due in June.

I got a trio of really nice LF Darks last year and I will be putting the two hens from the trio with a cockerel I hatched from the trio. My cock bird will be with 4 of his daughters from last years hatches.

My question is, if I put my white pullet in the breeding pen with my Cockerel (and two hens), how hard would it be to work their offspring back to white? Also, what kind of breeding plan should I use to accomplish this? Also, the offspring from the white crosses should be obvious, correct?

Hey guys! Last year was kind of a loss for me as far as chickens go. Between building a new house and having a baby, all I did was hatch guinea fowl eggs that we found around the property.

But today I made a step in the right direction, we just got rid of the last of our surplus bantam mix roosters and I was able to use their containment unit to set up my first breeding pen! Someone mentioned to me if I breed white to Dark, I might get spangled offspring, which I can breed for to make the spangling more intense. We'll see what we get. :fl

I think I might need to add a light to their coop to get things moving.

I LOVE my Premier 1 heater plate! It always does such a good job of drying off and fluffing my chicks up. This baby is a real cutie! Which pic should I post for the EHAL photo contest?

my guess would be Jubilee, As long as your white is dominate white, as a dark on this white should give you (theoretically) all jubilee (looks like a Dark with the black replaced by white). The when you breed the Jubilee back to itself you should get Darks, Whites and Jubilees.

Oh, that would be neat! Then I could work in all 3 colors but only keep 2 breeding groups
