Oh most definitely! I'd bid till I won if it was him and a lav pullet to go with him!

If you lucked out and got a nice lavender cockerel the second generation cross-back, he would be extremely valuable for test breeding which hens carried the gene. This endeavor is not for the half hearted or the poor record keeper. If you love a genetic rubix cube and have a big feed budget, Go for it. It is almost impossible to get this gene in this country. For the bold adventurer, this is the cornerstone to a fine breeding program. The key is, you need a lot of black orp hens to start out like this. I am not trying to discourage anyone from getting this bird, just trying to help him get into the hands where he will do the most good. I would love to have him, but I do not have the hens I would need to support the breeding program to produce what I want. BUMMER! Someone buy this bird and make us lots of lavender cockerels! Please!

There are lavenders already in the US as of last year in fact. From what I know of this project, the type is being perfected prior to opening them up to the G.P.

anyone with a poor type lavender cockerel they would like to get adopted out to a very good forever home, feel free to contact me. i would be partial to a larger bird that just didn't get the poofy feathers he should have. C'mon, anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I would so love to start a breeding project like that, but getting the birds up here would be a monumental P.I.T.A. to begin with. It's hard enough to get my Dorkings to hatch!!

Actually only 25% would inherite the lavender gene. Trust me I know.

People who are truly interested in working on Lavender have a good understanding on what it would take to produce lavender with this bird.

If bred to a black, you will get some split lav progeny and some black progeny. As someone said, it will take work to identify the splits and breed them back to the roo. Two split lav birds can produce lavender offspring. It certainly is not impossible.

A project like this is not for someone looking for something handed to them on a silver platter. To gain a good feeling about your work in developing a breed, you should be willing to put time and effort into it.

Good luck to those considering bidding. Thanks to all for your comments.

Hello Jody, I agree unless one has some interest and knowledge this cockerel or even pullet would do them absolutely no good.

I also feel that since you have opened your project up for sale and to the public. That ANY serious, knowledgeable, ethical breeder would ask questions about what went into the making of this cockerel?

Since you are attempting to sell off foundation stock. It would behoove whoever desires to start such a project- knowledge of the hens linage so they do not double up.

FULL disclosure of what you are selling is not asking for the family secrets. If anyone desires the knowledge about how to go about it. It is simple, just read and ask lots of questions.
Work with others to enhance your project and expand it to it's full potential and genetic variety. Especially if you are looking to breed to standard and something worthy of being recognized by the APA. It takes more than one breeder to accomplish this.

I am not asking for this information publicly, but if you so feel inclined to privately respond, please do so. If not, I completely get it.

My post is educational since there is a product up for public auction, and at least one has publicly asked how and what can I do with this....
I would never ask if this was not made available or posted to a public forum.

This is a project bird,,with a lavender gene, what one chooses to do with it is up to the winner of this bird..no others...

Whether it to be for their own orpington project or another breed project will work fine with this bird...

when and if i write a book and you purchase it, you can pay to read how it was done..

Told you before its not being disclosed how or why "we" developed this strain of lavender orp...

But if you win the auction you to can have a good start to whatever you desire... Best of luck if you bid..
