LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

I wasn’t getting notifications on the thread so glad I saw it pop up today!

I have 30 week olds I moved from inside to the garage. It stays a bit warmer in there above 50 at night so mybrinsea heat plates work. They won’t work outside below 50 :( and my others are still in use outside by the 60 meat birds turning 5 weeks old. They’re slow growing so they probably need heat the rest of this week.

I’ve gone over the last week from 1-3 eggs a day to TEN! Yay!!!!!!! I poorly timed my pullets over last year, and I’m getting so many birds come into lay late. I bet I go from 3 eggs a day to 15-20 in a matter of weeks.

@allosaurusrock are you going to be incubating the seramas???

I will be using artificial incubation, I haven’t had the best luck with broodies.

I finally got a breeder marans to point of lay!!!!

Oh I do miss getting a lot of fun colored eggs. I love my Orpingtons, but brown eggs can be a bit boring. lol

I'm getting over a second run in with the flu since Christmas. The weather has been miserable, very wet and cold. Two weeks ago we had a tornado touch down a few miles from the house and woke up the next morning to snow on the ground. Yay, Texas!

I really want it to dry out some so that I can work on the barn and get some breeding pens set up to separate all the Orpingtons out by color. And actually figure out who is laying right now. I'm dying to start hatching chicks, but the Brinsea I have will only hold like eight eggs, and I hate it. I'm seriously debating buying an Rcom as I used one last year I borrowed from a friend, and it was amazing.

Is it the mini eco?

The one I have currently is a Brinsea. I hate it. I can get developing eggs with 100% fertility and then get two chicks. Every time. The humidity spikes after the first chick pips and the others all drown every time. I never had that problem with the Rcom. I'm thinking about trying the Nuture 360 and see how that goes? Or I may just say screw it and spend the $300+ on the larger Rcom that does everything for me.

Which brinsea do you have? I wonder if there’s a ventilation problem, have you contacted brinsea?

most everyone I see loves the nurture right. I do too many shipped eggs and really like upright turners.

I’m having a poor chicken week. I have a bald eagle (!!!) dropping by again, I’ve got a coccidiosis outbreak in my broiler flock, and so I’ve been obsessively cleaning and maintaining bedding and while cleaning yesterday in their coop I scared some and one flipped and had a heart attack. :barnie

it is Monday, though, and today looks pretty good. Maybe I’m turning a corner and I just call that “last week”.
