Maybe we have different sized milk crates. The ones around here are 18" tall x 36" long x 18" wide and they have slats, they look kind of like plastic baskets but are much sturdier.Milk crates are far too small to put over any broody, let alone a scovy

I've found this one works best after they're a week old. They have a hard time with their bills fitting in the chick waterer and a quail waterer can't even fit bantam chick beaks a lot of times. Plus they seem to deal better with a taller wall that they can lean amd kind of pile against if they all go for the same spot when I set it down in the morning.May I suggest; If possible, try to use a chick or quail waterer for the first few weeks with ducklings, they make a sopping mess if they can get their feet into the waterer.
