LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Plants are pretty tuned into nature and our environment is definitely changing. Maybe this has something to do with yours acting a bit odd this year?

Oooh, I love yellow flowers! I will definitely get photos as it opens, this is all new to me! 😊

It's possible. I really don't know:idunno. We might have a better idea when/if our plants split

I recently read on line about Lithops splitting and flowering, they don't split every year and they don't start flowering until they are 3 years old. I've got a super tiny Lithop that must be a baby. He probably won't split this year.

Interesting! So far all the lithops I've had have splitted every year. Maybe it has to do with the damage the leaves sustain?

Yeah, the flowering thing is common with a lot of succulents. Quite cool actually. I know for a fact some of my lithops are 10 years old. I think that's pretty cool!

Wow, 10 years is a long time, if you've kept them alive this long, you are definitely doing everything right! I just did a quick Google search, Lithops can live up to 50 years old! So you might want to put them in your will. ;) 🤣

Oh no, I haven't had mine for ten years, haven't even completed my 4th! But I do know that the plants themselves (or at least, some) are 10 years old. I find that the rare succulents in the plant expo always come with the tag of the exact species they are, and the year they were sprouted.

Wow, 50 years! Other people have long-lived parrots, we get plants:lau! Do you know about the welwitschia? Very cool plant. Supposedly it hasn't changed much since the time of dinosaurs(?). It's definitely in my wishlist. Another long-lived plant. Supposedly 400-1500, although I can't even begin to fathom that

4 years is still fabulous!! These are not easy plants to grow, so many people can't keep them alive. I need to move into civilization so I can cruise the plant expos. 😁 Too many sick plants on line.

Many of the cactus that you and I keep can live to be 100, I am already worried about where they will go when I croak! :hmm

I googled that welwitschia, wow that is one big crazy plant! It looks pretty ancient, it does look like a plant right out of the movie Jurassic Park! :lau So I take it, its an outdoor plant? :gig

Yeah, the one that's struggling the most is the oldest, which is very odd; nothing has changed in its care

My thought is that everything will go in the ground, or possibly to other collectors for the rarer specimens.

It looks odd, doesn't it? I love odd looking plants. People surprisingly keep it as a houseplant as well. The leaves (the plant only has two leaves for the entirety of its lifetime) don't rip as much when they do.

Anyways, I shall shut up about succulents, or just make a succulent thread
