Water is either deadly or lifesaving for these plants?! I'm sure this happens in the wild too? Lithops sure have developed a certain technique for survival. It would be pretty awesome to see them in the wild, but I don't think a trip to South Africa is happening anytime soon. 🤣

Unless someone else would be willing to fund the trip  !

Really though, sometimes it seems like one drop will kill them, and a bucket won’t do anything. They’re definitely more hardy in their natural environment compared to our variants. Why, I don’t know

Yes a free trip to anywhere, I'm definitely on board! Especially to see succulents and cacti in the wild! :love

Good analogy about the drop and the bucket! I wonder, since they naturally grow in the southern hemisphere, can they tell they are growing in the northern hemisphere? Maybe their genetic code for location is confusing them? 🤔

We never had issues with the rats until our cat Archie went missing in October 2024. Now they've shown up so much that I'm at a tipping point.
I know in a way that it's our fault that the rats are getting in but I'm still mad at them
I wouldn’t call it your fault. Chickens are messy and rats are determined. Chewing through hardware cloth is insane.

Good thinking! I have no clue.

Would make a lot of sense why they’d split and conserve energy during the warmest parts of the year, instead of our colder and rainy-er

I think at this point threatening mine (withholding water or offering water, which ever might kill them) is the only answer. 🤣
