Anyone here know anything about budgies? Just grabbed one that was laying on the street
He's definitely a lost pet
We have him in a pet carrier for now, he's sitting on my fingers through the bars sleeping currently, certainly in a bit of shock, but heater on close by, nice dark quiet space to sit in. He's offered water and fruit but not very interested in those right nowTwoCrows and Wind are probably more knowledgeable than I, but here’s what I can say
Since (s)he’s a lost pet, I would purchase something to temporarily hold him/her. The regular budgie/small parrot bird seed should be ok for now; not great long-term, but it will help with getting him/her energised sooner. Hopefully (s)she doesn’t have anything else going on, other than being very, very tired. Most love millet, so that’s definitely something to try. In the coming days, if the owner hasn’t been found, and (s)he’s starting to get bored, toys made with paper can be great. Mine loved shredding things
Have you posted him/her anywhere to see if someone is looking for their bird?
Hopefully you can find his owner, but you did well rescuing him! In a day or two he should bounce back from being in shock. It's hard to tell whether or not he's on a seed or pellet diet, but they definitely like fruit, cooked veggies, especially peas, pasta as a treat only. As @fluffycrow mentioned, they love those millet stalks. Cuttle bone for calcium and it helps to keep the beak from over growing. They love to snuggle and play with parrot toys, and being out of the cage of course. They make little play stands for them to hang out on when not in the cage.We have him in a pet carrier for now, he's sitting on my fingers through the bars sleeping currently, certainly in a bit of shock, but heater on close by, nice dark quiet space to sit in. He's definitely a boy with a bright blue cere
I've posted online asking for owners to come forward with a description of him.
He's such a sweet little guy
For enrichment, if he will spend long hours in a cage alone, give him a much space as you can afford. Use bendable rope perches, it's easier on their legs and feet. Mirrors, hang millet stalks, small bells, ladders, basically things to do. Check out the pet parrot section of a local pet shop or other stores and see what they have for birds. If you can allow it, he'd appreciate a play stand out of the cage where he can hang out and feel like he's part of the family. Leave his cage door ajar so he can climb out and play on top of the cage. Most parrots like a thin breathable cage cover at night, it helps keep the light out and they feel protected. They need at least 8 hours of dark uninterrupted sleep. He's still doing okay, his owners have not come forward yet, I'm wondering if we'll even find them... So while we wait we've got him some food and are collecting a cage in about 20 minutes. Anything I can offer him for a bit of enrichment in the meantime? I'm going to order a couple things this evening if we don't hear anything tonight, as he may be here a few days.
