Well that specimen is just stunning! It looks really amazing! I love it! You both are really inspiring. Hopefully I can report back with some happy plants, too. I might need to start getting creative with our window space, haha.

Yeah, what are you going to do when your Haworthia makes more babies ? Are they all stuck together? (I know nothing of how this works .)


I pruned my jade plant today (don't know if that was the right thing to do or not). I didn't know what I was doing growing it for the first 5 years of its life (still don't.) I know it could/should be a lot bigger but we got the cutting for free from our internet provider (small town, haha) which was really sweet of them.

Anyways, do any of you grow Jade? Mine doesn't look like this anymore, but I'm hoping I can get it bushier and happier, and hopefully get at least one more plant from what I cut off.

Then I have these little sedum/stonecrop things that I found. I don't know if they flower or not, I'm sure they do, but I'm hoping I might be able to bring them inside and keep them (or some of them) when it gets cold.View attachment 4186487

Haworthias can live for decades and the babies never stop coming! I didn't know anything about separating them back then and most people do separate them. At the point my plant is at, I'm sure it would be detrimental to the entire plant to detangle all those roots so I let it do its thing, getting bigger and bigger and bigger...

Yes you did great pruning your Jade! Jades can become trees and if you want to keep them compact and especially if you want to keep them in their current pot for more time, you can cut out other branches or branches in the current trunk. I just trimmed mine down, it too was becoming a monster and it's already in a 10 inch big pot.

I tried keeping all my plants outside last year and it was like a biblical plague of bugs! Thrips, aphids and scale, oh my! I lost quite a few due to bugs and it took months to clean them up. I keep a lot of desert type cactus which have high light demands so I started using Grow lights inside along with the several hours of sun they get in a southern window. My big monster barrel and columnar cacti do live outside during the summer though for max sun. I will have to make sure they are de-bugged soon to bring them in in September. I haven't seen any bugs on them but I'm not taking any chances!

I prefer calling them by their scientific name, because I’m weird like that, but yes, they are called jade. If I remember correctly, they are one of those “money attracting” plants, if one believes in that kind of thing

All my plants are in Terracotta, I won't use other materials as Terracotta is just so breathable! But I needed a shallow 12" pot for my gal and this clay pot was all I could find at the time. It's fair but doesn't dry out as fast as I would like. Next time she needs a repot, I am going to see if I can find a better pot.

Oh gosh, I can't wait to see how big your gal gets! These Zebras are aggressive growers, and do most of their growing and flowering in winter and early spring. (Zebra Haworthias go dormant in the summer heat, dormant not due to the length of the day. Allow morning or late day sun only too, they don't like a lot of sun.) But when they grow, they grow fast! Look what mine turned into in 6 years! Your gal will be in that terracotta pot in no time at all!!

I see mine needing a repot very soon, and definitely new soil. That should be done within the week.

Thank you for the care tips, I definitely need them! I’m used to my other haworthia, which is very different from this girl

These Zebras are definitely different from the more fleshy Haworthias. I find zebras to be SO easy to care for, they are quite resilient and aren't complainers. They aren't fussy at all. They aren't heavy drinkers but they don't like to go more than a month without water even during dormancy. If you are starting to get a lot of brown tips of the leaves, you need to up your watering schedule. My big gal gets water every 2 weeks during the growing season and then every 4 weeks during dormancy. Your gal is tiny so I wouldn't go more than 3 weeks between watering during dormancy to keep her roots alive until her root system is bigger. Once she is settled and growing, you will know she is dormant when she stops flowering and growing, usually June through November.

I posted here. I am not incredibly versed on ducks but if this is a simple case of bumblefoot surgery, I can help you with that.
