LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Thanks for the reassurance, and the knowledge!

I’ll hold off on fertilising, and wait and see what happens with the astros. All the plants have a few more weeks of growth and good weather before autumn really takes hold, but the season is coming to an end.

Already dreaming of spring, while I’m sitting here typing this in shorts and a T-shirt, sweating like crazy  . My mind however says “it’s fall, no more of that fun spring and summer weather!”
Oh gosh, it's too late in the year to be sweating! 😂 It's as cold as a refrigerator out here right now. (It's just after 6am) Yesterday I was thinking similar thoughts, I am already looking forward to spring and the cactus waking up, blooming and growing. 😁 Hopefully I can get these babies through winter safety!

Ouch! You would be very happy with our 31C right now.

I’m sure overwintering will go well for both of us, not our first rodeo after all!

I still have the lithops and a few gymnocalycium that look like they might bloom, but everything else is done. Nothing hits like spring blooms, however

Oh how nice to get fall blooms, isn't it?! 🌺 My Mammillaria plumosa is pushing up a bloom, but that's it on blooms right now. Last year my Thimble Cactus, Mammillaria fragilis, bloomed in late fall, but nothing yet. No sign from the Lithops either. Enjoy those Gymno blooms, they are gorgeous! 😍 Do they have any smell?

Ooh, the plumosa! Those are vey pretty, they look like you used the cactus to brush the fur of the softest, whitest bunny :love .

The gymnocalycium flowers have no glue that I could tell. Not to be that person, but I think my sense of smell is adequate. I haven’t picked up something

Most of mine don't have smell either. My Thimble Cactus flowers smell a bit soapy though. 😁

That’s quite unique! So far the only smell I have picked up is a faint smell from my crassula marnieriana. Not the greatest smell in the world, but at least it’s something!

I have my eyes on the stapelia genus; otherworldly and gorgeous (in my eyes) flowers, but they’re supposed to smell like rotting meat. I keep telling myself that at least they smell like something:gig

I guess cacti flowers are pretty enough and don't need smell?

Yes I've heard about the smell that comes from these flowers. Some people have to cut them off the plant because they stink so much. :lau You definitely need to get one of those plants!! 😂

That’s what I think. Most are so vibrant and large that they would stand out rather heavily against the deserts they inhabit, and would be easily spotted by any potential pollinators without the help of any sort of scent.

If my hopes come true, the plan isn’t just one, but three!
Hopefully I will be able to breathe near the succulents when those bloom

Oooh, I can't wait to see the plants and their blooms, some have huge flowers too! 🌺😍 Smelly or not, they sure are pretty flowers. Definitely post pics when you get the plants! 😊

If, I do, I will for sure! That won’t be until the plant expo in May, however. Got a lot more time for impromptu plant purchases, though🤭
