LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

A quick Admin note:

Our AMAZING team is working VERY hard to keep this thread open... but to do so, we need your help:
  1. Keep all posts FRIENDLY and RESPECTFUL
  2. If you don't like a post and/or feel like it breaks our rules, either report it, ignore it, or private message the person... or some combo of those, but DO NOT REPLY TO IT!!!
  3. If you report something, be patient as our team reviews the situation. Even if our team does not delete the post DO NOT REPLY TO IT!!!
Doing these things will help us take care of the posts that are in direct violation while allowing this thread to remain open.

If it seems like our members who most want this thread to remain open are unable to stop themselves from replying to posts they don't like, then we'll be forced to close the thread.

A quick follow-up:

If this thread is important to you, and you see someone (especially a friend) posting something that is not friendly and supportive of other members (even ones with whom you both disagree), then we STRONGLY encourage you to private message them and get them to edit their post before it is reported and potentially gets this thread closed.

Thanks @DuckLady for opening the thread back up. I was so sad this morning when I came in and saw it was shut. I guess I have a lot of catching up to do.

Does anyone here know if there’s a thread within BYC for Black Soldier Fly larvae? I keep finding small threads but feel there HAS to be some large thread? Maybe not.

I found 10,000+ larvae yesterday in one of my shavings and poop buckets from the geese pouring it into my compost. WHAT? My chickens must have eaten over there for 6 hours and I had to pick up a few to bring them Home to the coop at night. 😮

I’m thinking I should be setting up one of those auto feeders of these for the chickens.
I will pm you a link or schematics. We get em at the bottom of our compost all the time. Least I can do for a fellow Texan. I have lost 2 computers since then but all you need is a 55 gallon barrel inclined to its open end, compost, and a T-shape rain gutter that is closed to harvest them. I may need to redraw it.

LOL to the direction of this thread. Taking a big break from BYC for a bit.

How's everyone's day going?

Mine's been fine aside from the fact that our 6 yr old intact female cat escaped into the backyard.
She used to be an outside cat but after having 5 kittens(1 litter 2016, then 1 single kitten 2017), I decided against my parents that she should be an indoor kitty. I keep going out to look for her but I think she's wandering the neighborhood. I'm going to wait until night to see if she's back.

Oof. Today has been sub par. Been having a nice bout of insomnia and anxiety this week.

But I got the last of my cockerels processed! And that's tasty.

Still gotta check on my baby rabbits for the day, despite being very tired, then tomorrow I need to breed more does and start cleaning my space up a bunch. I'm having a masks-on, socially-distanced, outdoor holiday party with a very small number of people on the 1st. I honestly oughta start cleaning tonight but I'm not sure that'll happen.

Hey, do you mind if I ask how you go about choosing a good doe for breeding? What do you look for?
