LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

I got some labordite too, but I can't open them until I get ahold of some scissors.

I gotta say, I'm liking my new method for alphabetizing right now. Going way faster, I feel. But also going slow since I'm stuck carpooling this week and can't sit down and do it most of the time outside of my breaks at work.

I really wish there was a way to print photos onto a page of a notebook. I feel like I'm gonna need to beg my friend to grace me with their talent and draw some rocks for me for this project later on.

Id love to ask a genuine question of this thread. Something that isnt intended at all to be hurtful or disrespectful toward your community, but is probably something that will challenge it. The ultimately goal would be a better understanding for myself, as well as others who I see also dont quite understand the thread.

Thanks!

So the question is?

I've got a chunk of Labradorite on my shelf. Covered in dust.

Ok....

The thread was started almost 4 years ago it looks like, and it is safe to say that folks like myself, have become almost desensitized since then and now toward the LGBT community in terms of it being a taboo. It used to be something that if you spoke about, it would always result in some sort of a debate, but now it isnt so anymore - at least for the LGB part, the T and the pluses are probably where LGB was in the mid to late 201x's. Maybe wrong, but that is how my world presents.

But, at this point, this is what I and obviously a lot of folks don't understand.

How does being an LGBT+ person affect how you raise a chicken? The comparison was made initially that there are specific forums for people in Louisiana, or other states - so why cant there be a forum for LGBT? This makes sense, but for something like a state group, things like climate, specific diseases outbreaks, local ordinances, etc. can all be beneficial to talk about.

I can understand needing a place to talk to people being a marginalized group, I'm sure that is hard to relate. But I think what most people want to know is why here? Granted, it doest matter where as long as wherever that is allows it on their platform. I am free to click on what I want and what I dont want, so if it really does affect me on a deep level, then something is wrong with me. Im sure you guessed, but I am the dreaded straight white male, in my 30's.

Would whatever your answer is, would also be applicable if I wanted start a thread called "raising chickens as a white male"? If so, why not?

The answer to the question "why here?" Is simple, and is answered with more questions. Why a Christian thread, why a homeschooling thread, why an old people's thread? All these things have nothing to do with keeping chickens yet I haven't seen many people challenging them. I want to mention the fact that this thread is posted on the random rambling section of the forum, and we are not discussing how we keep chickens as LGBTQIA+ people, but rather whatever comes to mind. If anyone feels like it's an injustice that we get to have a thread (which would be a little ironic) then by all means, go ahead and start a cis straight thread

So, the first thing I want to point out is this is in the Random Ramblings section of the forum, meant for us to talk about anything and everything (within safe boundaries). Currently, one of the things we're discussing is crystals. When we want to talk about chicken (or duck, or rabbit) specific things, we usually go to those sections, although we sometimes chat about it here, too.

Heck, we rarely talk about our 'orientation', but when we do we know that it will be in a safe place with others that will understand and empathize.

Also, you don't need to be part of the 'community' to hang out here. We have a few that just like being here because we're a fun group.

And thank you for being mature enough to realize that if you don't want to hang out here, you just don't click on the thread. :) Some people just don't get that, and it's frustrating to say the least.

As for starting a thread as a White Guy Raising Chickens, I'd join it! :D Although I'd prefer a White Guy Raising Ducks thread. ;)
