LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

The answer to the question "why here?" Is simple, and is answered with more questions. Why a Christian thread, why a homeschooling thread, why an old people's thread? All these things have nothing to do with keeping chickens yet I haven't seen many people challenging them. I want to mention the fact that this thread is posted on the random rambling section of the forum, and we are not discussing how we keep chickens as LGBTQIA+ people, but rather whatever comes to mind. If anyone feels like it's an injustice that we get to have a thread (which would be a little ironic) then by all means, go ahead and start a cis straight thread
I understand that you have to defend your life constantly, and although it is a typed answer, it is clear to see that coming through. I promise with my whole heart, that I am curious. I personally see this as an opportunity to learn, because all the other internet areas to have a discussion, just isnt going to happen In a civil manner. With chicken people, definitely something that is possible.

And I believe the groups you listed also have no bearing on raising chickens - but should also be permitted to have a thread, or atleast be allowed to have whatever is allows by BYC. I personally wouldnt start a "white man" thread.

I am a reformed presbyterian. The church I belong to is hellfire and brimstone, and I used to believe that being gay was an abomination and a sin, just like I had been taught. However, after continuing to entrench myself in the Bible, I have changed my opinion on this drastically - still not something that I think you would entirely accept, but it is something that makes sense biblically.

I assure you I'm not trying to convert you to Jesus, 100% promise this - but I would absolutely LOVE to hear what you all have to say about :)

So, the first thing I want to point out is this is in the Random Ramblings section of the forum, meant for us to talk about anything and everything (within safe boundaries). Currently, one of the things we're discussing is crystals. When we want to talk about chicken (or duck, or rabbit) specific things, we usually go to those sections, although we sometimes chat about it here, too.

Heck, we rarely talk about our 'orientation', but when we do we know that it will be in a safe place with others that will understand and empathize.

Also, you don't need to be part of the 'community' to hang out here. We have a few that just like being here because we're a fun group.

And thank you for being mature enough to realize that if you don't want to hang out here, you just don't click on the thread. :) Some people just don't get that, and it's frustrating to say the least.

As for starting a thread as a White Guy Raising Chickens, I'd join it! :D Although I'd prefer a White Guy Raising Ducks thread. ;)
Thank you. This is good :)

No ducks here though, lots of chickens.

Chickens (and ducks, and rabbits, and dogs, and cats, and... well, you get it!) bring us all together on common ground. You can be of any race and religion and orientation, but animal husbandry doesn't care.

That's something the original OP shouldn't have included in the title of the thread, imo. It's misleading.

I'm glad to hear that! The two do not have to be mutually exclusive. But people need to open their minds AND their hearts and realize that the world is full of differences, and we don't have to kill each other over these things.

Good! :D

OH EXCELLENT

I am going to finish work for the day, but will come back this evening.

Honestly, I have really KNOWN one gay person my entire life. I have existed with many, but really gotten to know one. I was in inpatient drug rehab in 2009, his name was Chris and was a roommate of mine. At the time, things were different for me, I was much less aware of how life choices and decisions affect the big picture - like being gay was the same as putting on a jacket for the day. I obviously understand now that it is far more consequential than that - but I would really like to understand more through casual, respectful communication now.

I have 5 kids under 12, I live in the middle of nowhere and work for myself. This forum will be equivalent to someones night at the club :)

Anyway, ill back.

Thank you for being respectful and understanding, when most aren't. I didn't really feel threatened by your response, though you are right we are used to defending ourselves from others, and it's unfortunate. Also don't worry about the conversion thing, it never even crossed my mind. I hope the mods don't take these posts down, they at least deserve to be seen
