LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

So the first 6 I got were hatchery's choice. However, I am pretty confident that I have 2 Barred Plymouth rocks, 2 Black Australorps, and 2 Buff Orpingtons. Then the other 2 i got a week later and they are for sure Rhode Island Reds. I may have gotten a little addicted to them already hahaha
Welcome!!!!! Great to meet you. You’ll love BYC.

chicken math is real. I’d also point out that I personally feel like a quota of ten birds is almost free to do as you wish. ;-) no one can tell the difference between 10 and 15 or even 20. 😬😬😬😬

congrats on the pregnancy. And absolutely, my entire push towards everything chickens has to do with having a kid. I feel you there. I want him to eat better and live better and learn better. I want him to develop a sense of pride and responsibility that took me longer to find.

@Tre3hugger 4 neighbors in 5 miles sounds unbelievably divine.

we meant to have our house sold before Covid. I was really upset at my procrastination with that. However, all this quarantine time has shown me I’m way more prepared to live in tbe MIDDLE OF NOWHERE to get the things I want to have for my family

Haha Im not sure my wife would let me have that many. I had to convince her I needed the EEs and that since it was my bday and so she should let me. I really want the blue eggs on top of my brown eggs and so she caved. I would love to have that space too but probably not happening right now. Im still happy with what I got though! Thanks for the welcome @jolenesdad

Yea it really is. I bought my girls some scratch today and they are in love with it. Lots of fun to watch them run around for it. I am hoping to try them free ranging in a few weeks when they are a bit bigger and Im hoping the scratch will be a good way to get them to come back home. Do you free range your chickens?

CONGRATULATIONS to all LGBTQ and our allies, today was a huge day for us. The Supreme Court ruled (6-3!!!!!!!!) that the civil rights act DOES protect LGBTQ workers from discrimination in the workplace.

I remember vividly 5 years ago, almost to the day, when the supreme court ruled that marriage equality was the law of the land. I had been married for 7 years already, but, my marriage was not recognized in Texas. Because of this, we were told we would face a massive uphill battle where if we wanted to adopt in our home county it would come down to a judges decision on our ability as parents and our county had a horrible reputation for not finding LGBT parents capable. :-(

Furthermore, we could not have a surrogate in our own state, because the state would not place our names on the birth certificate, because that was a right reserved only for married couples going through fertility issues. We had arranged for a surrogate in Utah, where we could be placed on the birth certificate, but none of our family, and likely even WE may not make it in time to be present at the birth.

The supreme court ruling 5 years ago changed our lives. We, and our entire families, were able to be present when our son came into the world. Our names were on the birth certificate when we left the hospital. We. Were. Legal. I will never forget the people who fought so hard to make this a reality in my life, and all of our allies for the support to make things happen.

Days like today make me so excited for how far we have come and I hope that everyone on this thread who has expressed concern for their futures can feel solace today that PROGRESS is being made.

Love to all.

Checking in to give an update on me. I recently started delivering for Uber Eats on my bike to make a tiny bit of extra money. My current "jobs" are selling stuff on eBay/Facebook(4 years) and doing digital art commissions(7 years).
I've also been looking for inspiration for a bi pride flag tattoo to someday get on my shoulder.
Next week I'll be getting a new cockerel to add to our flock. It's going to be a Mille Fleur D'Uccle Bantam. The lady I'm getting one from has 3 to choose from so I'm really happy about it.
I've also been doing different stuff to help raise up and donate money to The Trevor Project. So far I've raised up and donated $105 as of yesterday.
