LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

From free feeding? I've only had this issue with dry food in the morning when they first eat. My duck eats too fast. Wet feed stopped that though
Yes. I thought at first that maybe she didn't get enough water so I kept a large pan of water next to the feed but it still happened a second time.

I love love unique birds. The reason I got into Seramas initially was the diversity of color types. I ASSUMED that it also meant they had very diverse genetics and would be quite healthy- how wrong I was. I dislike the current trend of making even traditional birds more and more extreme. Don’t tell anyone though, they’ll kick me out from learning to judge.

I've seen some really extreme serama that I also don't like. I'd consider getting into serama, I've seen a lot of people selling eggs, I just don't think it's the best choice with my setups. Plus the comb thing

I’d avoid Serama hatching eggs like the plague unless it’s from Donnie Gallagher. Seramas are notoriously difficult to hatch and very fragile when their young- most hatching eggs are almost certainly mixes. It’s better to buy older birds. I’d never sell chicks.

Good to know, heard it before but wasn't sure if it were true. I don't think Donnie Gallagher ships to Greece so that's a definite no, guess serama won't be it :lau . Really my ideal would be a smaller sized bird with some variation in color and something other than a straight comb

Of course, stopped getting notifications even though I was actively participating.
I could never! Not only would they poop in it, but I have to feed wet pellets to my girls so they're fresh daily...
otherwise Sprightly eats them too fast, and they block her throat and she chokes. I've had to save her many times as she refuses to sip water. Eventually I just gave up and soak the food.
I have a few like that, and I'm surprised it's Sprightly and not Dougie! I also wet their feed, most of the time. Mist, the drake in my avatar, likes to inhale food and start choking.

It's a trend I highly dislike, too. Look at Persian cats! A hundred years ago, they had noses! Now, they have breathing and eye problems. >.< They're doing the same thing to Arabian horses, breeding that depression in the face to grotesque levels. It doesn't look good, and it's hurting the animals! STOP IT ALREADY!!!

Rant over.

My issue with how Seramas are bred isn’t necessarily the shape of the bird (although I have seen individuals who’s type really is just too extreme for proper function) but instead the practices it takes to achieve a super extreme type. The amount of very close linebreeding in Seramas is a bit horrifying to me, and I’ve seen breeders talk about breeding daughter to father, and then those daughters back to the dad again, for multiple generations straight. No wonder the breed has so many health issues!

True, Dougie is the one who is food obsessed, but Sprightly is dumber
Dont tell her that I said that....
I have to hold her at the water bucket and tell her to sip, she tries to reach the food. No, sip. She dips the tip of her beak in to pretend then tries again for the food. No, a proper sip. She finally takes a sip
I wont always be there to save her, lol, so wet food it is. Plus I feel like they prefer it.
Mist is such a nice name btw. He's so pretty.

Agree completely!
