How long should I expect to wait until the new females start laying?

They're Welshies, so may start immediately as they're one of the super-layer breeds. As for having the eggs fertilized, wait a couple of weeks.

Not worried about fertilized. The drake that came with them apparently had to show me that those are his females.
I'm more worried about the move causing them too much stress to the point of taking longer to start laying again

Also- I like turkens but I wonder about how well they communicate with other chickens? Hackle feathers are a big part of communication for them.

Mine seem to be more vocal. Maybe because they can't bristle? They go through the motions though, I can see Johnny Law's skin and muscling ripple sometimes when he trys to flare at the other males

Yup it was clear ! I hate our entry. From the way they dressed him, to the staging, his vocals, and the fact that they use the fact that he's a 16 year old to defend them
