How can this be rat proofed? Does it even need rat proofing ?

foam is what other people seem to use but I can’t imagine the rats wouldn’t be able to easily chew through the foam.Not sure what you could do. Maybe fill it with that foam someone's bird liked to eat (I think kt was in the shaming contest)? I don't have to worry about rats in my coops, a few years back I'd found a rat skull and what I believe to be a weasel skull while deep cleaning the run

I am surprised the weasel didn’t cause any issues! I think rats are much more of a issue with chicks and quails then adult chickens
