How can this be rat proofed? Does it even need rat proofing ?

Is it open at the top, under that funky roof? If so, I'd either put mesh there, or a solid panel of wood.

Not sure exactly where you mean? There is no mesh under the roofing sheets. I am trying to avoid having to put mesh under them because it would will take a lot of mesh

Rats eventually find a way in, wild birds will shimmy in there too. Foam isn't a bad idea but it migh get messy. If you have any hardware cloth, you might start by making a template of the entire groove from the high spot to the middle of the lowest point and back, of the groove and lay it down on the hardware cloth and cut a long strip the entire length of this corrugated section, both sides. It doesn't have to be perfect, just as long as the wire blocks most of the grooves. Attach with wood screws. A lot of work but it would definitely make it safer.

Yeah I think all I saw was "lady" and I typed in she. I am pouring myself another cup of coffee now!
