Not exactly the same, but every time I touch Ursula, it feels ANAZING! As much as I don't like the silkied feathers for the sake of the bird, I LOVE how they feel
Crispy Critter was my favorite chicken to touch. Obviously I wouldn't make another because she was a frazzle, but the texture of her feathers was, well.... crispy. It was just such a unique feel for me. Plus she was the only friendly bird I had that year, so those two things had her as one of my support birds while she was around. I wish I had been able to bring her to fair to highlight what a frazzle was, but because she was missing feathers, she wasn't allowed to enter

Did you know that you can put jackets on your sheep, to protect the wool? The wool stays cleaner and doesn't get "sunburned" tips. Fleeces from jacketed sheep command premium prices!

I once got a dark grey/black fleece that had been jacketed. It stayed dark grey/black when spun, whereas the unjacketed fleece had brown tips looked "muddy."

Thank you, thank you, thank you! :hugs:hugs
I might need to look in to that! They have gotten quite a few seeds stuck in their fleece :(

Thank you! I see a lot of this Merino yarn on line and wondered if it was a soft fiber. It seems to have good reviews too. I will look into this as well!
It's not my cup of tea without something else added to it, but not everyone is going to like the same fibers. If it was, there's probably be way less to choose from. I think it makes a good base though for some slicker ones like silk and bamboo.

Targhee is another hit or miss. Me and mom like it, but it's usually not super super soft, more of a spongey feel

Going to try and spin a bit today. I have unpacking to do and I still need to finish head counts on everyone. I lost a silkie while we were gone, and I think my weirdo naked neck chick (I'm not too surprised, I think he had something wrong. He acted like he was missing some braincells as well as vision issues).

I have some Cormo to spin, and then my fall potpourri to do afterwards.

There is something about touch that goes right to your brain, it must release good endorphins or something, it can really make your day brighter starting it out touching something very soft. All the better if it's a chicken!! 🥰

Mink fiber would probably be really soft too. But I've only found one place that sells it, it's super expensive (either $28 per ounce or for 2 ounces) and unspun. And the seller says the brown held onto a 'minky' scent somewhat, so it would probably be best to get the white one instead
my mother got a sample pack that had mink in it, its really soft! I wonder if ferrets have any useful fur

We might borrow the drum carder later this year from my grandmother to make some art Batts. That's what I'm looking forward to doing. I think that will be where a lot of my angora ends up going. I have enough to theoretically spin at least two skeins of yarn, but I won't spin it for probably at least a year (likely more if I'm being honest with my self), and I can always get more of it later. Especially if I'm not picky on color

It does for me. It links to other things for me too though. I get different emotions from different feels (I have one I felt at a show that made me feel like running away, that was weird. I'm not sure what it was with that fiber, maybe it was some of the color and stress from the location bleeding into it for me). My favorite textures are ones that make me feel warmth of being hugged or that feeling when you're on a free fall from jumping high on a trampoline. That heart and lungs freezing in anticipation of being in a dead fall before you feel yourself being caught.

The silks and other slick ones (mybe theres a different description for them?) always make me think of fish and Ice when I touch them

And then of course there are personal connections. We lost a ewe, Agnus, this year that was 13, and now I feel her clumpy, loving wool whenever I feel targhee roving. And I feel my first market wether, Cato (yes, from the Hunger Games, I was that kid) and even hear his echoes occasionally when I find that hard to find full Suffolk roving (which I hear is great for socks)
