LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

I don't find fish hard at all  . What were yall keeping?
Standard pet shop fish...Angel Fish, Tetras, other similar fish. Maybe it was the place I purchased them from? I tried purchasing from different stores though.

Huh. I have heard that the new batches of angel fish have been very fragile...how big was the aquarium? Filtration system?

This was many years ago but I always used a 20 gallon tank, I purchased a filter system, lots of air bubbles, a heater, plants, places to hide....

Fluffy, you will like this story on how sensitive fish are.

My brother has always had a knack with fish, kept them all his life, huge tanks with gorgeous fish! Many many years ago he decided to wind down on fish keeping but still had 1 fish left. I can't remember the breed or species but it grew bigger and bigger each year, my brother decided to stop getting a bigger tank for him so he would quit growing. The thing was about 16-18 inches long as it was and 20 years old!

Anyway, my brother would come home from work and oogle this fish, sit next to it and talk to it, he had a big chair next to the tank and my brother would watch TV all night and hang out with this last remaining fish. He loved this fish!

A couple years ago my mom's husband died, they both lived near me, just south of here. My brother came out here to help my mom for a couple of months, leaving the care of his fish in his girlfriends hands. I know this woman, loves animals, very responsible, would never cause any harm to this fish. She came by his house once a day to feed and check on the fish, water plants, etc...

Anyway, toward the end of the 3rd month of my brother's absence, the fish died. After my brother got back home, I tried to convince him the fish have up on life because my brother was gone from the fishes life, it simply didn't want to go on without my brother. My brother is too shallow of a thinker to believe this, he went all hard and said it didn't matter to him the fish was gone, but his girlfriend said she caught him balking his eyes out and disappeared for several days.

But to make a very long sad story short, I am convinced this fish gave up on life because his companion and mate was gone from his life, the fish mourned.

Aww, that's a sad but heartwarming story. I would 100% agree with you. Fish recognise their owners. Especially after 20 years. So sorry for your brothers loss, that fish obviously meant a lot to him, as did he for the fish❤️

That could be it? Unless you kept a single angelfish, or maybe a pair, 20 gallons is a little overstocked. Did you keep all of them together? Everything else sounds really good to me. What type of filter was i
So only a pair in a 20 gallon tank? Maybe this was the problem, I probably kept 6 fish in this size. This makes sense, too many in close quarters. :hmm

Yeah, 6 is a little bit too many for a 20 gallon. You should do a shell dweller aquarium in that 20 gallon! You'll love it!

I think it still bothers him and he misses that fish, but he won't admit it. I remember how excited this fish got when my brother was near, when others got near the tank he shied away. The fish was so big, when he cleaned the tank he was able to grab the fish and pick it up and out of the tank, the fish trusted him with no struggle at all!
