LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Thank you! Honestly, spring is a big scam. Late summer-early fall babies are better! So get whatever chicks you want! As long as they're bantams...
My first flock was hatched in the fall! I loved that because they started laying in February!! But, alas, I don't have enough room in my coop to bring any babies in this year (even bantams), so I have to wait until spring (getting a new coop - 10'x12' (or ~ 3m x 4m 😉))!

Awww. That's sad :hugs . What breeds are you looking to add next year (bantam breeds, of course)?

It's sad that I have to wait, but I'm excited to get a big coop and I can use my smaller one to brood the chicks!

Right now I only have Buff Orps and Barred Rocks, so I want some colored egg layers! The hatchery I'm buying from (Meyer) has blue Ameraucana (I want 2 of those - they're expensive!) and blue sex-link EE bantams (I want 2 of those), a Welsummer (they also have Welsummer bantams), a Green Queen bantam (olive egger), and a Green Queen LF. So 3 bantams out of 7! :)

Why are you so keen on bantams?

Chicken math and coop math go hand in hand. ;) Too many birds + not enough coops = MORE birds and MORE coops! :gig

Sounds good! Could be better, like getting 4 more bantams, but I'll take the half win. I've fallen in love with bantams! They require less food, they're smaller which means you can have more of them, most, if not all (which it's probably not) brood and are fantastic mothers, almost all can actually fly, they've kept a lot of their instincts intact. Just some of the reasons I love bantams so much. That's coming from someone who breeds LF birds btw:p

That's lovely! Bantams seem like a great choice for lots of reasons.

🤣🤣
What kind of LF do you breed?
