She's very much blonde. During the summer she went through a phase where she excavated every single nest in shight, throwing all the hay out. Then September came and she stopped. She's...peculiar
If she can't go broody and raise chicks, nobody else will either? :lau

My Wyandotte hen has me confused and concerned 🫠
She's acting broody but there's a few problems with that.
1. Nobody is laying
2. It's too cold
3. I honestly can't give her anything (Chicks or eggs)

Might still be broody

Yep, no eggs and cold doesn't stop broodiness. If her hormones are raging, she can go broody. They can and do set on nothing at all, just sit there and hog up a nest box. As long as she is still eating, drinking and not acting sick, she's no doubt fine.

She's raised chicks and ducklings before but I already put the brooder coop away so I wouldn't be able to separate from the flock.
I don't trust the roosters yet

Cleaning out all my animal enclosures makes me feel good :).
there are discussions of more quail in the spring also! I’m very excited!
Same!
I love making it cosy for them

Awesome about quail! I've decided I might get a few in the foreseeable future, always loved quail. I think they'd be fun to keep, and it'd be nice to have the eggs for my dogs.
