Those are beautiful plants, I've never kept a Christmas Cactus but a lady I know does. Hers is over 30 years old, very big plant, still blooms every winter!
My grandma has one from when my family first moved here. So that ones like 12. Mom got the normal red one, I think I'll get a white so theyre different.

Why do they call them "Cactus" aren't they a succulent?
They *are* a cactus, actually. One of the more primitive ones, I believe.

I inherited my mom's when she died, and my dog destroyed it!!! Still haven't forgiven him for that.

He also destroyed all my dragonfruit seedlings.

This. Tropical cacti don't need the spikes to survive, since they do not experience the same temperature extremes. Most tropical cacti are also epiphytic. All in all, pretty cool! Sorry you lost the heirloom plant, those are always special

Also. All cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti. So neither would be totally wrong here
Very interesting, I had no idea! I need a sun room now, I'm starting to get more dedicated to keeping succulents. My south facing window is small and just not good enough for growing plants. 😕
