LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Oh, and I ordered some chicks today!!! :wee

Decided on 6 OEGB (2x Red Pyle, 2x Porcelaine, and 2x Mille Fleurs), 7 Brahmas (6 females, one male) and 4 Chantecler.

I think I mentioned this before, but I actually placed the order now. Just need to wait to see if they'll have them available, as they're a smaller hatchery here in Ontario. Hopefully have them late April or early May.

I also ordered a new incubator, and a brooder heater.

Awesome! Hopefully they'll be conformationaly nice birds, but most importantly healthy! Can't wait to see them! No geese this time :p ?

No, I'm going to hold off a little bit on them, to see if I can get some cheaper. There are a couple of poultry auctions coming up, lol!

As for conformation, I'm not as interested in that. I find most of those too extreme.

Fair enough, cheaper geese won't mean worse geese! I'm assuming you're not including the Chantecler? The brahma I get, but I find OEGB very "fair/moderate" in their standard. Wither way, they'll be your birds, so doesn't matter what I think!

I may purchase hatching eggs, if I can find the proper breed close by. Only thing I've seen so far are Emden.

I'm getting the Chantecler mainly because of their being a local breed developed for our environment. Keeping it Canadian! 🇨🇦 They are also considered a rare breed now, so I'd like to help out with them a bit.

The Brahma I want because they are HUGE and cool looking, and lay well in winter. The OEGB because they are TINY and adorable. :)

I like extremes, lol!

It's great helping out native breeds! OEGB are definitely tiny and adorable (although serama easily win over OEGB). As for the brahma, I only have two, but I haven't got a single egg from them since late September

NU-HUH! OEGB win! If only because they look more like a chicken rather than a toy soldier. :D

How old are the Brahma again? They are much slower to mature.
