I know this is soooo off topic and happened months ago, but I just learned that aart passed away. I was looking through some old threads and saw the "legacy member" and years by her name.

What an enormous loss for the BYC community. This makes me really sad. I know she would pop onto this thread occasionally. I really learned so much from her and it's upsetting to know she isn't here to share all of that no BS, straight-to-the-point, "where-in-this-world-are-you-located", very helpful information. RIP.

Just so you and everyone else knows that may not be aware of, we have a Memoriam thread that gets updated when we learn of someones passing here on BYC. Most of these are in order of their time of passing.

It's strange to be on a forum where there's thousands and thousands of people interacting every day and realize that a single presence is missing. I knew she wasn't around even before I saw that she had passed - that's how big her impact in this community was (is).

Need to get this off my chest before I go off on someone.
I completely hate how messed up the US is right now. Not sure if anyone here heard but there was a school shooting in a Minneapolis school this morning and I'm really ticked off.
I'm really mad that the schools aren't doing more to protect these kids and that the US isn't doing anything about making sure to prevent this from happening in the first place.

I totally agree. As a parent, it is terrifying to send my kids to school. It hasn't even been a whole week since school started and it's already happening!! FFS! There are so many factors that contribute to the problem we have in the U.S. with this issue and those who have the power to make change REFUSE because they are beholden to certain special interest groups. I'm sick about it.

This is not something I had to worry about when I was in school. Columbine happened the year after I graduated HS. I can't imagine what it's like to go to school these days (even college campuses are not immune).

I unfortunately get to experience it. It is horrible. Any time the announcements come on you can see that slight fear as the possibilities of what bad things could happen run through their minds as they take those glances at the door to the room. I don’t think we even realize we do it for the most part and you have to look for it because it happens so fast but it is there. It almost feels like fear for what could happen is part of school itself when it should be a safe place.

I'm so sorry this is what America has become for young people. Those in my generation and older have not done right by our children - putting people in charge who enact policies that protect corporate greed instead of human beings.

I'm sorry that you and your classmates are burdened by thoughts that no person should have to endure, let alone students who already have so much going on in their young lives. We need to do SO much better. I'm afraid it's going to be a long time before the tides change on several human rights issues (one being the right to feel safe when going to school). I think we must use our fear and anger to advocate for real change, even when it seems impossible.

So since I only ended up with two pullets from my last hatch, and the 6 boys are gone now Obviously this means I have room for more! The guy who took the boys breeds chickens and he gave me 21 eggs to incubate They are a mix of different breeds, no mutts but unsure exactly what I will be getting other than some True Blue Whitings.. But those eggs look green to me so IDK

Anyway I candled them just now, day 6 and marked 8 that I am unsure about. So I should know for sure next weekend which are developing and I will toss the clears. 13 for sure humming along so hopefully I get more pullets this time
