Do any of you in the U.S. have seramas? Is there a hatchery in the U.S. that has them? Are they able to be kept with other birds or do they need to be separate?

I remembered that fluffy has them. I am interested in learning about them. I just wasn't even sure if I could get any from a mail order hatchery. I'm fairly certain there aren't any in MI that would have them. I'm also not to sure how they would do in MI winters. I have a large Sweeter Heater in my smaller coop, I just wouldn't want to even try to keep them if it could possibly be bad for them.

Thank you TwoCrows, you are very kind. I’m far less knowledgeable than allosaurusrock on anything serama related.

My seramas have been quite broody. All the purebreds, as well as all the future mixes have gone broody at some point, most before they hit a year old.

They are incredibly friendly by nature, but one that has never been handled will be just as wild as any other chicken.

The roosters so far have been incredibly mature, helpful and observant. They are also quite annoying with their little chicken noises.

My line seems to be quite prone to SLM, which I don’t think is true for every serama line, but it’s something to keep in mind.

They are not particularly cold tolerant from what other cold climate serama peeps have told me, but I literally am the worst person to comment on that.

They do more than fine with other bantams, and serama chicks do more than fine with LF chicks. I’ve never kept LFs and seramas together in a coop environment (free range is a different situation, they had done really well there), and I don’t think I’ll ever try. They are just too small for me to be comfortable to keep them with the LFs.

They aren’t the greatest layers, though I’m sure you could guess that. They are however, exceptional fliers.

I'll have to think on it a lot. There are some hatcheries in the U.S. that have them, but they are quite expensive and I would fear for their safety in shipping and in the crappy Michigan winters.

They're just SO darn cute. I get all beeble-nuts when I see pics of them.

I’ve never done shipping the way you guys over there do it, so I can’t help with that. I do know that many get their seramas shipped to them, and that it’s sometimes easier due to their size.

They really are incredibly cute, and surprisingly resilient! Tough little guys, especially if they’re not the completely inbred types. This advice was given to me by allosaurusrock himself when I was getting into them, that I should be bothering with getting the super “correct” types from the get go. Those are much more fragile.

I love my lower quality, but mostly resilient guys. You know how much I loved Lady Gaga, one of the best roosters this property has ever known. They’re great birds
