Lice On Chickens

The eggs under the broody hen still have a week and a half until they are suppose to hatch, so I think that they should be affected too much.

Most feed stores in the US will have permethrin dust or spray. That's what I would use.

Carbaryl is no longer approved for use in poultry, so use permethrin instead. It's sold in every feed store I've ever visited. Mary

Just to ensure that my chickens have lice, here are a couple pictures of the bugs. Some of them are larger and more red, but this is one that I removed from the hen. What does it look like to y'all?

Google images of lice and their eggs to ID what you are seeing on your birds.

They are definitely lice, but there are no clusters of eggs on the shafts of the feathers.

No egg clusters means you may get away with one treatment.

Looks like a louse to me... The redder ones are probably red from your chicken's blood.

The top picture is a louse, but the bottom photo is too small. Do your birds have both lice and mites? Yuck! Mary
