I have some 3 week old chicks that I have noticed have lice on them. They were hatched out in the coop, but taken to a brooder within 24 hours. I thought they probably came from the broody hen, but when I checked her, I didn't see any (doesn't mean they aren't there though I suppose). I'm wondering if she could have had them, and then when she started bathing more regularly, killed them off? Anyways, I am also wondering if Sevin is safe on the little guys, and if I should clean and treat my whole coop based on this?

Nothing is completely safe, but lice and mites can kill them, too. I would treat the flock and the coop with Sevin. Repeat in 10 days.

When I had a bad case of lice on a broody hen and her chicks, I did a bunch of research on Sevin dust. It has been approved for use directly on day-old chicks, so using it in this case is not even considered off-label. Since the lice can hurt the babies worse than the Sevin dust, I would treat them.

Thank you very much! That makes me feel better about treating them anyhow. Hopefully it will do the job!
