I need a lot of help, my fiancé is out of town working and I just found out that my oldest Roo has a very bad lice infestation. His skin is red and raw and he has a bunch of clusters of nits. What’s the best way to treat him and then treat the rest of the flock and my yard as well?

I wouldn't treat the yard per say as lice live ON the host.

Permethrin spray... after dark, after roost... no chasing. A small spritz just below the vent, under each wing pit, and to the back nape of the neck... since there are many types of lice that inhabit only one part of the body like the head. Make sure feathers are parted so spray hits the skin...

This one is ready to use, safe, effective, no withdrawal time for eggs, and labeled for use in chickens. Sold in the equine section. For under $8, it lasted me 2+ years with 82+ birds, 2 large goats, and 3 medium dogs. I bought it for mosquitoes but discovered a whole host of other on label uses. I don;t like powders as I consider them harder to use and caustic to breath. DON'T waste time trying DE!

It is sold under other brand names and concentrated forms that you mix, like Martin's. Be sure to retreat in the correct amount of days... in order to disrupt the life cycle and not just create resistance to the drug by the next generation that hatches.

Considered ineffective on scaly leg mites and depluming (very rare) mites .

Good luck! :fl

I found that a hudson sprayer worked well to apply to the flock and I treated the coop as well. Nest boxes and the roost especially.
I don't know about brands... but I bought a garden sprayer for my next round... and it puts out WAY too much product to spray birds with... so I am going to use that for the barn and standard trigger for my birds. Trigger on my first bottle went out before the spray was gone. I do treat nest boxes and roosts as well. :)

Will either of these work? I’m leaning more towards the yellow one

I have used this with no problems too (the Bronco one)
Those do have permethrin. One issue to note is the other active ingredients listed... I do NOT know if that effects egg withdrawal or not.

The pyrethrins is fine. Butiloxide (or whatever it says, I'm not familiar with).
