Eva listened to her with kind eyes. Once she was done, she sympathized “That’s awful. Your parents shouldn’t have done that.” She paused, realizing whether she wanted to admit her part of the story, before she added “My parents were kind of like that to. I wanted to become a ranger or something, but they argued that I should use all that survival training to hunt the Aves. But the Aves don’t deserve to be hunted, I don’t think. At least most of the ones we met.” She looked back at Raquel with pensive eyes.Raquel finished scribbling down what she had learned and her thoughts on the notepad, and shut it with a sigh. "I didn't realize how similar they are to us." she remarked. "I don't know why we hunt them." She paused, not sure whether or not she should continue. "I only really came out here to try to prove myself to my parents." She paused again. She needed to rant to someone, but could she trust anyone? She decided she couldn't trust anyone, but she could trust Eva. "I never wanted to be a hunter. I wanted to be an anthropologist. I loved it, and was good t it! I got good grades, and I got accepted to the school I wanted to go to. I had started taking summer classes for it. But then-" Her face darkened. "They never said I couldn't go to the school I wanted to go to, but they gave me no support. They were always going on and on about their precious son, my brother. 'He's a hunter he's so brave, why can't you be brave like him, instead of going to be a scientist?' I couldn't stand it. I had to prove myself. But I guess the anthropologist is still there." she laughed harshly.
Luna laughed, before waiting to hear what Hector would say."Same as usual," Persepolis responded with a laugh, "lost in love."
She turned to Hector, "What's this talk about clubs I hear?" She asked with a soft smile.
Xylo nodded, not sure if he should leave her at that. With a hesitating look, he looked out the window again, glad to see everyone was getting along.River glanced at him again. "It was no problem." She said, unsure of what to say but felt she had to say something.
River put her pancake on her plate. Then stood up, taking the pan off the fire. She walked over to him. "We should probably go join them now..."Xylo nodded, not sure if he should leave her at that. With a hesitating look, he looked out the window again, glad to see everyone was getting along.
Eva nodded, responding “Let’s do it.” As they walked, she asked “Were your parents controlling growing up? Mine definitely were.”Raquel nodded. "Definitely. Hey, we should probably get some food." Right on cue, her stomach growled. "I set some dead-fall traps yesterday. Want to check them with me?"
Xylo nodded, and extinguished the fire before he walked outside with her to join the group. After he sat down, he bit into the pancake. It’s was utterly delicious.River put her pancake on her plate. Tory hugged Sierra back, confused, and a little bit afraid.
Tory stared at Sierra, then at Casimir, then back at Sierra. She was silent for a moment, but then asked "What's a brother?"
Sierra decided to explain to Casimir first. She began softly “The crib burned, but that doesn’t mean she had to have burned inside of it. And she has wings because she was transformed to an Aves. You can choose to believe me or not.”
Sierra then turned to Tory once again, explaining as best she could to a little girl what a brother was. She began quietly, “A brother is family. You both had the same mommy. She continued on in a voice that leaked an unusual tone, one of joy and sadness, that she had found some of her family, but that now she might be replaced. “You just don’t remember him, but he was your family before I was.” Sierra looked at Casimir as she spoke, hoping he knew the sacrifice she was making for him, instead of simply walking off with the child or lying to Tory. All the times she had protected Tory, including today, she hoped Casimir saw that. Mercy on a human child, rather than the malignity of an Aves who he thought had burned down his house.
Tory hugged Sierra hard. "But you're still in my family, right?" As she heard the sadness in Sierras voice, she sent comfort using her power. Why was Sierra sad?
Sierra noticed Tory using her power and smiled some. She returned the embrace, explaining softly “Of course I’m still in your family Tory.”,
Tory relaxed, releived.
Raquel huffed and rolled her eyes. "You have no idea. Wait-actually you probably do. Sorry, must have gotten bonked by one of those hail stones last night." She snickered.Eva nodded, responding “Let’s do it.” As they walked, she asked “Were your parents controlling growing up? Mine definitely were.”
