Lies Spread Quickly RP

Greymane had finished plowing up the ground and had raked over manure from the animals to feed the soil. The bossy mule had been loaded with firewood for town, as Greymane had some essentials he needed to pick up, like seed potatoes and onions sets and a new sack of salt for himself and the animals. Greymane patted the mule before leading the way into town.

Tess was hungry. A sharp, piercing feeling jabbed at her stomach, twisted.
She bit her lip, shifting on the hard ground. She wriggled out of her blanket, winced at the cold morning air that lashed at her cheeks. She yawned, and shakily stood up, rubbing sleep from her eyes.
Tess bundled up her blanket, and stuffed it into her duffel, along with some other trinkets and necessities.
Tess slung the bag over her shoulder, and started walking. The girl would stop periodically, digging in garbage piles for unwanted food. All of it was mangled or contaminated beyond repair. Tess glumly continued her search.

Once he reached town, Greymane hawked his wares, for sale or trade. He unloaded at the general store, trading for the seed potatoes, onion sets, a pair of hams, and salt, plus a small pouch of tobacco for his pipe. He loaded his mule up for the journey back when he spotted a bedraggled street urchin. He pretended not to notice her, walking gruffly. What could an old man like him do for a kid anyways?

Tess's eyes flicked up to meet the old man's. She looked at him with envy, eying the packages and bags on the mule. She could steal some, she knew. The man was long past his prime. She could outrun him. And she was hungry, beyond hungry.
Or, she could always Change, and kill the mule.
Tess shook her head lightly. She wouldn't kill the mule. And she probably wouldn't steal from him. And she most certainly would not ask for money, or food, or anything like that. She could take care of herself, she thought.
Her stomach protested.

Autumn saw him staring. She growled at him, before walking on. She knew where her guitar was. She dimly realized that she probably couldn't carry it in wolf form, before realizing that she had Ignacio to carry it; he was still human. Unless he shifted.
It didn't matter; she loved being in wolf form. She was dangerous as a wolf, no longer vulnerable to many human threats. She was a threat, in wolf form. She didn't need a gun. She had teeth and claws.
Ignacio shook his head at her growl, then continued forward, a bit excited to see where she was leading him.

His ears pricked slightly at the sound of her rumbling hunger. He wanted to keep walking, he couldn't take in a kid. She didn't seem like she wanted to come anyway, she wasn't looking at him. A few steps past, her, he halted the mule. "Sounds like you need a hot meal, kid. You got anywhere you staying?"
He wanted to kick himself, he was sure she would turn down his offer. He looked her in the eye, squinting a little, his grizzled beard rippling in the breeze.

Tess bit her lip, instantly wary of the stranger. "What's it to you?" she said, her voice hoarse with disuse. He would ask for payment, she knew. Payment in return for a meal, that would work. Maybe. She wasn't sure she had anything to pay him with.
And besides, it wasn't any of his business where she was staying.

Ignacio was starting to gain interest as to where they were going with a new sense of curiousity, but also caution. He couldn't just trust a stranger.

Autumn stopped at an old, gnarled tree, whose branches twisted awkwardly towards the sky. She stopped, and placed her front paws on the trunk, looking meaningfully at a hole in the tree's warped form.
