"Nope," he replied. He raised an eyebrow at the question, weighing if he should risk asking one of his own, but let it linger. "Don't need no dogs harassing th' livestock."
They turned up a narrow but well worn path cut through the forest. The sweet breeze played with the trees, causing the light to dance across the forest floor. He sniffed the air, breathing deeply, sighing. It always felt better out of that congested, overly smelly place.
Tess shrugged at the answer to her question, and dropped her gaze. He was lying. Right? It was possible that he ran into some dogs that he didn't own, but the smell was so strong...
Tess shook her head, clearing away her thoughts. She didn't need to know about this man's relationship with dogs, of all things; she only needed to know that she was staying at his place for a day and a meal, then leaving.
