Life from the Parsonage - A Journal of our Journey.

Yesterday, my computer and internet lines were up and running. A lightening storm took them out 3 WEEKS ago.
Life didn't stop, in fact, so much has happened....I don't even know where to begin.
Days around the parsonage are rarely 'quiet'....when they are...some might call them dull...for us....'bliss!'
Chickens are growing...oh, Aussie Sharon my "Big Red" has been crowing beautifully for a good month now. He went thru puberty with....uhm...a struggle....he crowed like he was being strangled....but now....it's every morning beginning at 4:30am...and pretty much the whole day....he is gorgeous! (I have 2 roo's...will sell one...but waiting to make sure nothing happens to the other one....

The rest of the gang is enjoying Spring! The Rev. was mowing the yard yesterday, they would follow behind acting like he was throwing out treats!

I truly hope everyone had a lovely Easter. We did. God spared my son...and he was able to hunt eggs this Easter! (last Easter was spent in ICU with him) last Sat. was a wild day, but again....I'm a blessed woman. So, I'm just counting my blessings.

The stories will have to wait till another day. I've got company coming from Arizona tomorrow....and then....well, school day, followed by T-ball practice....(did I mention my son loves this game?) and it is so much fun to watch....the Rev. gets very excited himself....

Have a blessed evening.

Ok...here's some pics....I went out with my camera just a minute ago...and here's some of mine...especially my 'Big Red'!

Oh, Gwen he is quite the bird now isn't he?? LOL so glad all is well at your house! I'll bet you are enjoying this awesome weather? Have you put your garden out yet? I am waiting till the 25th, according to the Almanac to transplant my veggies out into the garden space.
School will soon be out and then your fun will begin.

Lovely weather! This week anyway. Yes, put in onions, and greens. Going to try to plant tomatoes, squash, cukes, etc... this evening. Willing to risk frost....though not much chance anymore for us down here. Already put up several pints of strawberries, and a few jars of jelly.
Hoping to get more up this wk-end....
I've been craving veggies fresh from the garden! yum! (go to my facebook page and you can see more pictures of life around here...

Man I miss those days when my kids were little and played ball. Lucky you.

My son will be 17 on the 28th of this month and is in high school and does no sports. He is the last one at home. Enjoy every minute with those little ones because time just has a way of evaporating on ya.

Good to hear from you again, nice birds.

The things we'll suffer, just to attend a ladies renewal!!!

10 to a room...(not really, though it seemed like it...cause we had adjoining rooms and there were 5 in one...well, 4 1/2 my little girl was with me
smile.png
)

And it rained, and it rained, and it rained. But oh my!! What a wonderful time, and the messages Elsie Withrow brought to us! She is an amazing woman. She has such a powerful testimony! Her book is coming out soon...can't wait! It's called "Some thru the fire"...I'm telling you, she has been through the fire.

We had fun. However, on Friday night...the tornado sirens were sounding in towns all around us, the motel was literally shaking! Several people in many other rooms were talking about this. My mother and her church ladies were below us, my church ladies and myself were directly above....we felt the shaking, they did not. But God sent whatever it was, on around. And though completely rained soaked, it was a good time.

Decoration was this Sunday for my Dad's cementary. We had asked a minister to fill in for us....I rode home with my mom, and the Rev. came up later. That was a sad day. But was very glad I got to spend it with my family...and all seven children were there, that meant alot.

We had a wonderful success with the ladies baskets for Mothers Day....can't remember if I told ya'll....
Our WM (women's ministry) made baskets and wrapped in cellophane for a fundraiser. We sold all but 2, and the ladies in the church bought those...sooooo, all gone! Yeah! (We set up a table at the renewal)

Possibly a T-ball game tonight...pretty soggy around here, not sure if they'll let anyone on the fields.
*I forgot to add....the Rev. took pictures of Tball game...put the camera in the back of the truck...and did I mention it RAINED?!....he brought it in this morning. The sim card is good...but pretty sure the camera is finished!
otherwise, OZARK HEN....I would show ya'll pictures of the 4 new babies we brought home with us!
buff's! They have been sexed...and I wanted only little hens. They are chirping quite contentedly behind me...sweet hearts.
However, Big Red is going to meet his maker. He jumped my little girl the other day, and got my little minx 2 days in a row while she was trying to potty...she's so tiny. Not quite 2 lbs and full grown. He had her by the ear! grrrhhhh
I just have to catch him first. Waiting for sundown...

Supper preps are not even begun...and we have the game at 5:30...soooo,
Ya'll come!

Oh, Gwen, I am sorry about your camera but thrilled about the new chicks. I just saw this post and somehow missed your last posting?

I have a large blue orp roo, named Miss Emily
duc.gif
M. E. used to go after my shih-tzus all the time and a couple just love the new chicks and always go into the coop with me. The rest of the flock know the dogs will not harm them. one chicken comes in the house every time a door is left open and goes right for the dog food and shares with the dogs! Anyway, the last time M.E. started after both my little rescue roos(one does not know he is banty sized silkie/mix) he almost killed my little roo and sent my little dog running to the house. I went after him with my walking stick(in the midst of a battle with little Scrapper) and sent him flying three times before he got the message. I said a quick prayer(please God let me just knock him out and not kill or do any permanent harm to him) and swung!
smack.gif
Well, he limped for about a week but he seemed to get the message. Now today he was after Scrapper again. He won't bother people anymore but I feel I need him since he is such a good protector of the flock...at least, until I get a very good orp to replace him! He is huge but has a lot of brownish feathers in his cape and I don't want that so he will be looking for a new home soon.
Love the t-ball pic!! Those days are long gone even for my grandsons, but hey, great grandson will be there in about what??? six years??

I'm going to keep a dominique roo I have, he's younger, and not showing any signs of meanness. He loves to crow however.

For some reason, the Big Reds won't go in the hen house tonight...think I know why...it's full of gnats!
Ugh...going to do some research about them. they live in swarms around here....literally. You can see patches of gnats in the air just swarming in particular areas! They seemed to have hit on the hen house.
Anyone know about swampy areas and the gnats? (These are small brown gnats who adore hair and nostrils.

am having a small break....it involves Diet Dr. Pepper and BYC.
Just got back from a harrowing trip....
Laid out clothes for the Rev....(he's trying to hurry) He's got to get back to the hospital.
See....our main vehicle has been out of service....the man he hired to fix it didn't.
When we went to pick it up this morning (early!!) it died on us a block away. We've spent several hours going back and forth to a mechanics shop. On the 3 rd trip back we saw police cars, 1st responders, and we knew there was a wreck (right in front of the mechanic shp) so, I pulled in the lot with the vehicle and the Rev. behind me in his truck. He went up the the front, then I saw him jumping the ditch, and knew that whoever was in there we knew.
It was one of our church ladies....they had already rushed her to the ER, so we jumped in the truck, stopped and picked up her husband from work, and we've been sitting in the ER till just a few minutes ago. The children were hungry, school (homeschool is supposed to work with your schedule
hmm.png
) and now...feeling a little jittery.
Wrecks make me sick. She is ok, well, very banged up, she was back doing tests when we left...he's already back up there.
So, we will see. Car trouble is sure enough aggravating. Plus, it cost us a fortune this time. The motor was blown....103,421 miles. Don't know what caused it...but since we stay on the road...ugh....sorry, not venting so I'll shut up.
Well, worried about the lady...
ttyl

****Edited to add*** Big Red's are missing. One is definitely no more. Found a feather pile in the back yard. No trace of the other one. And it's not enough feathers to be more than one. They wouldn't go in when I looked the coop up, felt bad.
Could be anything...2 animals I have seen (besides neighbors dogs) are a coon and a mother fox with 2 kits. Who knows what else....I think everything likes chicken for supper. Poor things, I hatched them. I should have just caught them and put them up. The Rev. didn't want me to kill them....I guess I did, inadvertantly.
