Got my brooder set up from TSC and the guy there was adamant about my giving the chicks Life-Lytes. I mean, he was truly horrified when I said I wasn't planning on it. So, being the highly susceptible to suggestion noob that I am, I bought some and followed the directions (3 tablets/quart). We got them yesterday and all appears well so far. My question is, how long do I need to give it to them if they are all perky and happy? I really don't see why they need it if they aren't stressed, ill, etc... Also, I've read posts mentioning "electrolyte poisoning," but I haven't seen any specifics about it?

I have raised a lot of baby chicks without feeding any electrolytes to them. The tractor supply people are pretty big on pushing you to buy more than necessary. The more they talk you into the bigger their profits. If your chicks get sick or stressed then a day or 2 of electrolytes in the water might be ok. However normal healthy chicks fed a good diet and kept adequately warm don't need anything in their water.
