light and eggs

I just had a conversation with an acquaintance who keeps hens and he does NOT provide any artificial light for his hens during winter despite the fact that here in the Colorado Rockies we have much less than 14 hours of light in the winter, in fact as little as ten hours for weeks. Yet he continually gets eggs, 8 to 10 a day from a flock of 24. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

t can depend on the breed and condition of the hens as well. When I had no light in my coop I still got eggs. I provide the light for the heat now, but do not have to have it for my Delaware girls to lay

I had weeks go by with no eggs from my 10 girls, so I added a like and now I get at least 8 a day. So i think the light is VERY important! and 8 eggs fro 24 isnt very good.
