My 2 light brahma hens lay eggs that when you go to crack them the membrane inside the shell is so tough to break that I usually end up with a bowl with a bunch of egg shell with the egg or I stick my finger through yolk so no dippy eggs for grand kids and about every third egg the one hen lays is a jumbo double yolker is this normal for this breed?
The reason I am asking I was planning to hatch a few chicks from my trio when my peafowl start to lay. They are just a year old and I traded for them because the lady that had them want to get rid of the rooster but the way her kids played with that rooster I just though as mellow as he was that is what I wanted around my grandkid's.

I'm not sure what is causing your troubles, but I have two Light Brahma hens that lay eggs that are like any other egg. I don't think this is normal.

Really strong membranes are not that uncommon in younger hens. Not really a brahma thing, more like a young layer thing.

Thanks for answers. My peafowl usually do not start to lay until May so if there is no change in membrane by then I will probably not hatch any with my first hatch of peachicks.
