Light Brahma - what sex? UPDATE 9/2 pg. 6 it's a boy

Those are pullets. Our males have a dark pinkish red comb and the girls were light colored at that age. Some of the hens were pretty large in a couple of weeks after hatching but the wattles and especially the dark color of the comb meant it was a roo for sure! You will enjoy the Brahmas for sure. They are like flowers in the yard. Our rooster ACE knows he is something in the barnyard !

Rubysmom, thanks your pictures help so much! I am now thinking I have a pullet

Ohmychickies, let me know if yours turns out to be a Roo. I'll be curious to know.

I'll update the thread when my chick either crows or lays an egg! thanks to all that helped

glowworm, I found this thread a little late. I believe your first pic is of a pullet. Here's a side by side comparison @ almost 5 weeks. Maybe it'll help. The roo is on the right.

gritsar,
you gave me that photo when you responded to another one of my posts, but its hard for me to see the difference in your photo. Also, you said its looks like a pullet in my first photo- do you mean my other photos show a Roo? It's all of the same brahma, except it the couple of photos where I mention which one is in question.

No, no I don't mean that at all. It's just that I'm on really slow dial-up (26.4K) and sometimes I don't allow all the pics to load if I feel like I can tell from the first pic. Also, other people posted their pics too and I wanted to be specific that I was referring to your chick. I strongly believe that's a pullet.

I really think it is roo the more I look at yours in comparison with mine he has a strawberry comb and the other doesn't he has a full comb and wattles but the other does I think you might just have to wait and see and watch the stance(seem to be a little bow legged)HEHE and the thickness compared to a hen. I'll try to put some pics if I have any around that age to see if that helps.

No problem Gloworm.
How's the weather down there in Sacramento? We just moved from there up to Oregon. We lived downtown for years. Miss the city but not the heat!

When I was trying to figure out whether my LB was a boy or a girl, opinions were kind of split down the middle 50/50. Mine also has super thick legs, but still an egg layer. She also had a pretty pink face and comb. My brahma would change color (comb, face wattles) almost instantaneously if she's mad or unhappy in any way. From light, light pink to flaming red.

Good luck
Claudia

Hey glowworm,

Here's an update on mine 6 weeks old and the comb is definitely different than the others. I def. believe it's a boy.
