Light Brahma - what sex? UPDATE 9/2 pg. 6 it's a boy

ohmychickies,
mine is definitely either top hen or rooster now. I think the others are still figuring out their place, but this brahma knows its boss

It's also the biggest one, larger than the australorp who is a week older.

It's face is all around pink now, around the eyes and ears. The comb isn't much bigger...a good sign.

A girl that used to raise hundreds of chickens (i don't think she had brahmas though) came by the other day, she thinks its a pullet. She said you can also tell because the feathers on the neck are rounded at the tip, but roosters would have pointed feathers on the neck.

I will post pics when its older.

UPDATE . 10 weeks old now .... double the age of the first post! Next I will post pics at 20 weeks

I think its a pullet even though she seems more developed in the face. The reddness in the face goes away when she's resting, or when its not hot outside.

ohmychickies, do you have a update on your brahma?

My light brahma girls are 20 weeks old and dont have wattles like that yet, but that about what our roo looked like at 10 weeks.

OH NO i really hope not. Whats the average crowing age? I live in the suburbs and there are no other chicken sounds around...if that makes a difference.

Mine didn't start crowing until about 18 weeks...
The first picture looks like a pullet with the body shape, but with the pointed hackle feathers and in the photo where he's on the right... the one on the left looks like a pullet should... and he's only going to get bigger. You should start seeing the green droopy feathers in his tail in the next few weeks.

Hi glowworm,

I quickly ran out and took a pic of the roo, I have heard him once try to crow, sounded like he was dying. I think yours is a roo, my LB girls are not at all red as he is.
