Light Brahmas, 4 months Pullet or Cockerel? +Updated Pictures on Page 4+

The head hen in my flock is more prone to rooster-like actions, though less so since we got our roo. She would always stand up straighter and watch for threats before the roo and she was the one who gathered up the rest of the hens at bedtime and made sure they went to the coop. Now the roo handles all of that. When the roo was introduced to the hens, the head hen did a bunch of chest bumping with the roo and tried to run him off. He is just so much larger that she did not stand a chance - but it didn't stop her from trying. As for the tempraments of the other hens, they vary - they have a definite pecking order as you would expect with any flock and some are quieter and calmer than others. Their sizes also vary quite a bit though size and attitude do not seem to be directly related.

Thank you, that makes me sigh with some relief. :)

It is so funny, how chickens take on different roles in the flock.

I guess some just like to take care of the rest and be "mother hens." Haha.

I think chickens are like people....we are all different. I have 4 sisters and we are all different sizes, shapes and we are different in personality. I love the out-of-doors, snakes, etc and I wear jeans all the time. I don't like to cook. I can't draw. One sister likes to cook, is very prim and proper, dresses up and is a fabulous artist. My sisters are blond and I have dark brown hair. I "matured" at 12, my sisters at around 14! So, why can't we understand that chickens can mature at different rates and behave differently. I don't believe where they are from make any difference.
Anyway, like I said before, I love this thread. I will be sad when the suspense of knowing what sex Georginia is is over! hahahhaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Yes, I would agree.

People can be so different, and yet still be related. The same goes for chickens, as well, I'm sure.

It seems like most people assume chickens to be one and same with each other, and that's just not accurate.
If there are so many different breeds, it makes sense that even within a type, there should be some degree of diversity.

That said, I think I will be a bit sad, also, albeit relieved, when we find out what Georgina is. She is quite the mystifying chicken!

Thanks for folowing the Georgie thread! :)

PS: I looked at Georgie's tail today and I didn't see any irredescent feathers growing in.

Here's another update for you, Flower! :)

We're still a bit unsure about Georgina, as we haven't seen an egg or heard a crow as of yet. Her comb and wattles haven't grown a whole lot, but she is very red! Okay, I'll stop chattering and post a few current pics.

Kitty (other LB) is still yet to have any red/pink on her face.

Georgina's sister is queen of the plant pot.

Dust bathing.

Digging to China...

Hope you enjoyed the pics! :)

Oh, I don't know. Are there any saddle feathers?

Light brahma hens can get pretty darn big combs. I'm hoping that's a girl.

They're both gorgeous birds!

I'm still thinking that Georgina is a hen - but would really like to see a picture from the side, especially including the tail. And while Georgina looks very well-developed comb and wattle-wise compared to Kitty, Kitty seems to have almost no development at all - definitely much less than most of my hens. So you may have both an early bloomer and a REALLY late bloomer. Hopefully both will start to lay eggs soon and solve this mystery for you.

Aw, thank you! They are just hatchery birds, but we think they're pretty cute.

Yes, I'm hoping that's what it is, because she doesn't have much, if any, irredescence in her feathers. I haven't noticd any pointy or saddle feathers, either.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

Will post some pics as soon as I get them uploaded. :)

That would make sense. I wonder if Kitty will be one of Brahmas you hear about who take year to lay their first egg.

Perhaps I should look at some pictures of other LB pullets, to compare their combs with Georgina's.

I'm hoping pullet, too! (or at least a crowless roo

) Keep your fingers crossed!
