Light-bulbs for chicks.

Yes, we use ones similar to those. They work great. I use a regular clip on lamp for bulbs less than 60W. I would think a hanging light kit would work, but do check to see what's the maximum wattage it can handle.

Thanks, I will check the kit, I don't want a fire hazard hanging over the little ones!

I live in N.FL. and mine are in the coop for 2 weeks now. Over night lows are ~ 50*. I have a 250W red bulb in there now. Should I change to a 60W white or just remove the red bulb altoghther, I turn it off every morning when I let them out. The birds are 8 to 11 weeks old and feathered out.

I'm not an expert by any means, don't even have my chicks yet, but it seems like they may be old enough, and your temps warm enough, that they don't need the heat lamp anymore. Hopefully someone with more experience in a warmer climate will chime in.

My oldest chicks now are only about eight weeks old and I stop using additional heat with them two weeks ago. You can take your light out. They should be OK.

That's what I thought. I did put the 125w bulb in. I think I'll swap a 60w in for a few days and then shut it off for good.

i'm using a white bulb and so far my girls aren't pecking each other and I've just replaced the heat lamp bulb with a regular 100w light bulb and put it closer to their perch and the temp is around 90 and they really seem to like it better especially little Teeny.

I use a black light for them, then I do my beat box sounds while waving a flashight.Party over here, party over there ooat ooat!

I've stopped using a light at night with my younger birds now as of about two days ago. They're ISA Browns hatched on Feb. 14. They'll go out to the growout pen come Sunday.

I find feather picking in the brooder to be more of a problem from overcrowding than any other reason.
