I am getting super excited for my Lil Red (RIR) to hopefully soon give me an egg! She is 18 weeks old and this morning she did the submissive squat and would not stop cackling at me! Seems a little young to start all this nonsense...the old RIR's I have just started laying a couple of weeks ago! Maybe she is putting on big girl panties? Who knows! Either way, I'm eggcited. Now if only my cochins who are the same age would show some signs! They don't even really have their combs yet!!! This picture is from Tuesday
I sure hope so! Yes she is a cutie! She is kind of weird. A very strange personality. She is a loner and is definitely in her own world 100% of the time. I had sent my husband to get some replacement hens (months ago) for the ones we had just put in the freezer (cornish X) and my poodle had just killed my little afro hen cochin that was 8 weeks old so he got Lil Red to replace her, thinking Lil Red would run with the remaining 5 cochins...but she doesn't. He said when he picked her she was in a separate cage from the rest of the smaller chickens! I was kinda mad at him for getting her because I didn't know if there was something wrong with her or why she was by herself! But she is healthy and happy. Just a weirdo like me! haha!
And now she is going to soon join Big Mama, Ann, Dan, Lacey, Sahara, and Midnight in the egg laying world! Woo!
Still no egg from this little turkey! But she was chowig down on oyster shell yesterday, along with one of the Cochins of the same age. The Cochin actually squatted by the rooster and he just walked away lol... Poor girl was rejected. Patiently waiting.....
