Chapter 36
Jaz was right outside the coop and we nearly ran into him.
Wow girls! Slow down! He said.
Jaz! Jaz! The-the coon is back! I saw it! I gasped out.
Jaz peered behind me, I dont see anything. He said.
I looked behind me. Nothing. It was right there! I swear! I pointed where it used to be. Hot tears were threatening to spring from my eyes. You have to believe me!
Ok! Calm down Lilly. Ill get everyone inside. He said.
I nodded my head and he ushered us inside the hen house. Mom came in with me and Rose to comfort us. Dad was out with Jaz, rounding everyone up.
Everyone was in the coop and Jaz and my dad were standing guard, preparing.
Im going to go check on things. I said while trying to slip off my post but mom grabbed me.
Honey, no. They have it under control.
I stared her right in the eye. Mom, let go.
No.
Let me go mom. Now. She had a worried look in her eyes but let me go.
I got down and peeked out the hen house. Jaz and my dad were a foot out of the coop, standing guard.
I slipped out of the house and went to my dads side.
What are you doing out here, Lil? Go back inside. He said.
No. Im helping. Its me the coon wants.
Well Im not sacrificing anyone, especially my daughter. So go back now.
No. Im staying. I held my head high.
He took several moments to reply, Stay behind then.
I nodded and sighed a little.
I looked all around, waiting for the coon to just spring out of the woods and come after us. I looked to the woods on the right of us and peered around. I saw something move. Weeds were moving.
I poked my dad, Dad, something moved over there. I saw. He then told Jaz and Jaz slowly started walking towards it.
