One of my 5 month old Pekins started limping as of yesterday. She has 2 black spots on the bottom of her foot. We soaked her for 40 minitesin a warm Epsom bath and when we tried to pick at the black it didn't feel like a scab. She's eating and drinking but has been laying down and sleeping more than usual and is panting. I should have been checking the feet but it isn't slipped my mind. Is it possible to be bymblefoot if it doesn't feel like a scab? I may just have to take her to a vet on Monday but really not looking forward to paying over $300 for something it seems like most people can fix themselves. I bought some different wound sprays from tractor supply but I'm afraid of waiting too long and something happening to her.

If you turn her on her back, is she flailing and pushing with her legs?

Hmm after soaking her we had he kind of upright and she didn't seem to be flailing too much but I think she was a little relaxed from the soak.
Just want to figure out why she's not standing on her feet:
  • Pain in her feet due to an infection (bumblefoot)
  • Paralysis in the legs, could also be an infection or an intoxication
  • A hurt or dislocated joint
Is she moving her legs? When she was on her back, where were the legs:
Tugged to her belly (normal)?
Moving as if she wants to walk or turn herself around (flailing, normal)?
Stretched flat to the back-end of the duck? - That could be a sign for a paralysis.
What concerns me is that you say she's panting. It is not too hot for her, i assume? That could be a fever - due to an infection.
If you have: Activated charcoal is never wrong. If she is drinking a lot and still panting (while it isn't hot, of course) i would try an antibiotic and as always vitamins, minerals and treats.
Good Luck! And please keep us updated.

Got some pictures of her foot this morning.

Eek. Thats what I was afraid of. Right now it feels pretty smooth and not like a scab I can pick off. I took a look at the article and it sounds liek I should keep soaking it each day and putting neospirin on it until it becomes a scab?

Will she need any oral antibiotics or can this all be handled topically? Her foot doesn't feel any warmer and than the other foot.
