My almost 3 month old Pekin duck is limping. She used to have problems with this one leg when she was younger but It got better when I gave her more niacin. The leg has never been straight but it has started bugging her again. I need help I don’t know what else to do.

It’s not too late to get her on liquid b complex TSC carries one that most of us use 1 ml a day over snack. Does she have a safe way to get in an out of her pool. Pekins are known for leg issues so getting her on the b complex asap would be a good idea. Even if an injury like a sprain the liquid b can help support the muscle while healing usually the one at TSC is called Durvet and it will say injectable but we use it orally. Since I don’t have a TSC close I order online.

She needs some niacin. Feed her peas everyday along with her regular food. You can also get her some vitamin mix from tractor supply and add to her water. You should see an improvement after a while. We have a couple older ones that are having a hard time now. But when they were young the niacin helped.

I'm having the same issue. About 1 week ago, our 3 month old male Pekin started limping. We questioned if he hurt his leg because he has never had an issue before. We also have a few pigmy goats that I questioned were a little rough around feeding time. The same age female peking has no issues. Upon examination, we found no issues. He seems to be limping worse now and it also now seems that his left leg seems to go out more to the outside. All our birds (chickens and ducks) free-range during the day and are in a coup together at night. Does this sound like a niacin issue also? Thanks!

It sure wouldn't hurt to try him on some liquid B complex. give him a place where he can rest and not be moving around so much so he does rest. Also, water therapy is good because it takes weight off the leg but keeps the muscles from getting weak.
We have to eliminate so the first would be a niacin deficiency which Pekins are known to have. So do the liquid B complex and rest and see how he is doing by middle of next week Hopefully, you'll see improvement .You'll want to keep him on the liquid B complex at least a week after recovery, then switch to Nutritional yeast daily over their feed. 1 Tab to each cup of feed. Or you can just keep using the liquid b complex.

Thank you for the information.
Today, my husband said it looks like his middle "toe" is swollen and some swelling higher up too.
Would we do same treatment?

I have Niacin capsules that I bought and was mixing in water when they were little and inside. I'm not sure the best route to give it. The ducks and chickens share the water, so I'm not sure if that's the best route. They eat and drink and sleep in one area.

I've read about frozen green peas too. Is this sufficient niacin?

Peas have niacin but knowing how many to feed to give the duck what it should have daily would be hard to figure. for me anyway. If you have a way of separating him from the rest but where he can still see everyone that way he has to rest and can also have his very on niacin either over a treat or in his feed. One nice thing about the liquid b complex is if given over a small treat they usually get the whole dose which is very important since water dilutes it down. he will need 1 ml daily. You could use the niacin capsules but they cannot be time released or flush free. and put the niacin over his treat with a small amount of warm water so he isn't trying to eat powder. My Muscovy drake gets Cosequin daily because of a leg injury and it's powder I put a small amount of treat [for him it's dry dog food] then sprinkle the Cosequin over and put a small amount of warm water then wait until the water has been absorbed before he gets his treat. He loves dry dog food so he eats it right down.
