Limping Hen - Help Please! *Good News = No Bumblefoot!* But...

Sounds like a good idea to separate them. If it was me, I'd keep the two girls together.

Yes. I just got back from the coop and it turns out that her RIGHT foot is swollen. Not badly, but it's definitely puffier than the other foot. When my Uncle gets here I'll have him pick her up and look for any scab, but until then (in about three hours) I'll just have to wait! I think that I'll just put my two hens in the old dog crate. I would put them in the shed which would be great, but we have huge wharf rats that I wouldn't want to hurt them.

..Louie? how come you can't pick her up?....................sorry just saw that Louie is your roo, but is there a problem that your not able to pick her up and examine her foot.

No, I just don't like standing up to walk through the pen much because of all of the roosters. I don't want them to attack, and I don't want to scare them. She is really shy, and too fast for me to pick her up. My Uncle isn't afraid to walk up and grab her

I'm not scared of my roosters, but I just don't want to be distracted by her and have all of my roosters attacking my feet!

PS. It's alright if you call me Louie

Most people do on here.

Not yet, I wish we could of, but it turns out that he had to stay at work late today. It's too dark, but that may be a help, actually. If we can go tonight, then we can grab her easily and put her in the kennel. If not tonight, then I guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow.

That's a good plan to separate the hens - I would keep them separate until you have more adult hens. One-to-one is still too many roosters

I did just want to comment, even though you didn't ask: Please don't worry that walking in the pen will scare the roosters. They'll perceive that attitude as weakness (it sounds melodramatic, but it's true!) Walk anyplace you want, quickly and firmly, and never move aside for them. Make them move aside for you, always. They're much less likely to hurt you that way!

True, true

I used to do that all of the time but having five roosters all around me is just a little stressful

Also, I've never had full grown roosters before until now

I will be separating the hens and roos ASAP.

Okay guys,
So I went to the coop yesterday and looked her over really well to find that there isn't any scab (bumblefoot)!

So, after looking her over, either her left foot is really thin, or her right foot is really swolen! What should I do about this?
