Limping parakeet

I know you can give baby aspirin to chickens, but I don't know the dosage for a parakeet. i would lust let him rest and see if he makes any progress. try and feel for any hot spots on his foot. you might also want to try Vetrycin or Vetrycin hot spot spray. That might help him to heal up. But if you can find any hot spot or swelling, I would assume it is a sprain. Jus let him rest and see if he makes any progress.
I can look up the dosage and see if I can give some to him. Maybe it’ll help with the pain. Thanks for the idea. I have looked for hotspots or sores but his feet look perfect. I work at a vets office and we sell vetricyn I’ll see if I can get some of it or maybe genone spray which is similar. I separated him from the flock 2 weeks ago and he’s stayed the same, no improvement. But I’ll wait longer and try to make his as comfortable as possible. Thanks for the help!!

He might have bruised his leg. Give it time and it may heal up.
That is what happened to my parakeet Lemon. She healed up ok.
Yeah? Did you do anything to alleviate her pain or make her comfortable by any chance? I thought that too at the beginning around 2 weeks ago and I separated him to his own cage much smaller to make his rest, but sadly there hasn’t been improvement. Im still giving him some more time and want to make his as comfortable as possible. Thanks for the help!!!

You could probably use arnica, and a sauve cream, mix. That might work better if you didn't find any hot spots. I used a homemade mix of that on my chicken, and she is doing much better! I can tell you how to wrap it with the sauve mix if you decide to do that, but it might be tricky since a parakeet foot is much taller than a chicken foot. You could probably add the Vetrycin in the mix if you already bought it tho.

I separated Lemon from the other parakeets and gave her spots where she could rest her leg. When a parakeet limps, they try to get weight off of the other leg. So I helped her do that. This way she can let it heal.

Actually yes i will love to know how to wrap it, I’m sure it’ll be trickier but I’ll try my best. If it can help I’ll like to try it. Thank you in advance I’ll make sure to go and buy the materials.

You gave me a good idea about putting more spots for her to rest her legs. I had put a flat board in the cage but she never goes on it, prefers to hang out on a perch. I’ll try to add some more boards and take away the perch, see if that convinces her to use a flat surface to rest the leg. Thank you

Your welcome. I did not know what to do when Lemon hurt her leg because the vet said it was fine. But I didn't believe her that much, her leg had a big bruise on it. So I gave her thing to rest on and I think it helped. I hope it helps you to!
