Limping Pekin

also @Isaac 0 in addition to the above, I did squeeze the little hard lump on the toe, it is rock hard but wasn't willing to come off easily, the other black spots I could kind of pick at and get a bit of crusty stuff off

Looks good...not sure how the plastic will work out. We use Vet wrap and it works really well. Of course the foot doesn’t necessarily stay dry but it stays on and keeps the wound clean.

I would continue keeping it clean. They say you can cut down on the soaking to every other day so the scabs dry up. Hope she is doing better!

This is what I’m wondering about, do I want it to “dry out” or should I be allowing it to stay “immersed” as it were in ointment.

Keep the foot moist with a triple antibiotic and try gently teasing the core out in a week.

Every time time we wrapped our ducks foot, we put antibiotic ointment on. It eventually dried out. We soaked for 3 days roughly and then switched to every other day soak but fresh clean bandage ointment everyday. ☺️

Looking better today, but all the more difficult for it

Looking better today, no photos as it was getting dark and I was doing duck duty by headlamp. 🙄. I did not iodine soak as I figured she would have to get by tonight without. She was NOT happy at all, worse than usual perhaps because of the unceremonious nature of her treatment tonight. Kicking, flailing and biting. As she’s usually such a sweet calm duck. *sigh* good thing I love them.

She had slipped her bandages as of this morning and had what looked to me like a perfect foot. She’s not really limping anymore and I let her go, I changed pool water and cleaned them out extra well to keep things clean, I’ll change bedding today and iodine soak her before bed but I am hopeful we have it beat. Picture isn’t perfect but foot looks good.

Noticed poor scuba limping around lunchtime we put her back in the pen to chill, her feet look perfect..to me at least, pink and soft and no black scabs I dunno, I felt and looked and it doesn’t look like a slipped tendon, of course a fair amount of mating ensued once she was out of isolation this morning, I hope we didn’t do the wrong thing
letting her out.
