Hi all,

When I was with my chickens today I noticed one of the hens had a line down her chest in her feathers, ive tried to Google what this could be but ive found nothing. Shes acting normal, eating and drinking so she doesn’t seem to be unwell. Ive attached some pictures so you can see, thanks!

Welcome to BYC! :frow

To me.. it's a natural part in the feathers that's more noticeable on some birds than others.. possibly relative to keel bone shape/protrusion and or actual breast shape.. ie maybe more noticeable on double breasted birds or vice versa.. maybe possibly differences between how they preen or how full their crop is.. but normal and nothing of big concern.

Actually when zooming in on your photo #2.. I can see it going on the bird in the background as well.. the buff one with it's neck stretched out.

Hope this helps. :)

Hi,

Ah ok, I was worrying today when I noticed! That’s one of my chicks, I think it’s just the angle, that’s the mark where it’s wing is! Thanks a lot though for reassuring me!☺️

It looks like she has a healthy amount of weight on either side of her keel bone. The opposite problem would be a protruding keel bone, which would indicate that there is a problem with her ability to gain or keep weight, due to poor health or a variety of reasons.

Your lady looks like she is healthy, bright, and quite possibly even a little athletic?
