When I was a new chicken owner I done alot of stuff that I just didnt know not to do that Im still paying for..

1. Make the door on one of my tractors WAYYY to small...

2. Not making my first brooder more predator safe.. My dad told me but I didnt listen. Lost 13 one week olds to 3 stray dogs that broke into my cage.. Still cant figure out how they gnawed "hardware cloth"

3. I planted my Mothers Day flowers from my daugther out by the front door. They were so pretty and pink and purple.. and I guess the chickens thought so too..

She still wont forgive me for that..

Not snake proofing my chicken yard.

That's my biggest mistake.

I think about 6 of you the answer should be not staying in school long enough to learn how to count to 3. 1. 2. 3. I. II. III uno, dos, tres,

1. finding this board, I do nothing but read post
2. Not finding this board earlier, I could have just chatted and not bothered to get chickens
3. Not double checking when son said he closed the coop, being woken at midnight to find 8 dead chickens

1. Not paying attention enough on a daily basis to catch the coccidiosis before it took 5 of my flock.

2. Not having the proper fencing to keep them free ranging within the protection of my dog.

3. Not being around (with properly loaded firearm) when something killed another 7 of my flock while they were outside my @*%#%& fence!
