I just thought of #4. Being suckered in by McMurrays promise of a free rare breed chick that would "amaze and delight" me. He did until he started to crow!!!

1. Not finding you guys first
2. Thinking Murray McMurray was the only way to get hatching eggs
3. Glad I didn't know a lot about incubation in the beginning because I started out with 80 eggs yikes

1. Thinking that chickens are perfectly safe roosting in trees.

2. Thinking that if I put the heat lamp close enough to the waterer that water won't freeze...well it didn't but my $40 waterer melted and I'm lucky I still have a coop.

3. Leaving the coop door open....overnight.

Ahhhh......leaving the door open. This is one i struggled with all summer. I felt bad when they were panting and did not dare. I think this is a good post. If we can learn from it, its great. I'm now glad i shut the door

1. straight run.
2. thinking chickens slept in nesting boxes.

(BTW--we've never *knock on wood and crosses fingers* had a problem with predators getting in the coop--it's just when the chickens are outside, its the problem. We've got rabbit wire all over, a regular roof, and it's on concrete. Not pretty, but functional.)

I am chicken mistake free as I don't have any,and hope to stay that way because of byc some day I'll have some.
