I have the little black bugs.
I sprayed the coop with 2/3 oz Permethrin to 1/2 gal water.
I did not spray the chickens. I have 4 day old chicks.
After spraying coop went in garage, stripped.....
zipped thru house showered and shampooed.
I have found the "possibly mites" in my house now.
I mixed up some alcohol, witch hazel, eucalyptus, lemon, melaleuca and lavender essential oils. House smells good. Sprayed myself too. Hope this works.
Any suggestions. I am a stage 4 cancer patient so don't want to use strong stuff on me.
Thanks for any help. Linda

You may not have mites. I doubt mites would be inside your house. But here's an excellent site to visit that has all the information you could possibly need in order to identify and treat poultry pests, and the product recommended is a biological pest control that is completely safe for humans and chickens and has no egg withdrawal. You can also use it safely on baby chicks if the need should arise. http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/08/poultry-lice-and-mites-identification.html

Thank you for the info. The bugs are very small and I have to use strong glasses to see them. I feel them crawl on me. They haven't bitten me though....yet. I drop clothes in the garage and run naked to the shower. No fun.
I have 4 chickens and 5 chicks.

Where you live do you have a university extension office for agriculture? When I have a weed or bug I am curious about, I collect a sample and take it to them. They know what everything is practically on sight.

A while ago it was impossible getting inside of our coop - you would be itchy in seconds.
After a visit in the coop you'd have these little black animals all over you - Added a video:

Can you tell me if this is what you have? or what is this animal?
Anyway I dusted the chickens with something called Pertixine. Dusted again after 10 days.

They have seemed to leave but after a while I started feeling itchy again if I was too much time in the coop so I need to continue the treatment and I'm not sure what to do exactly.

Your help will be appreciated, thanks!
